Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall are engaged after the England rugby star proposed to his royal girlfriend of 7-years at their home in Gloucester last night.
Unlike Prince William and Kate Middleton who waited a month after getting engaged to make the news public, Zara and Mike wasted no time in making the announcement.
This means that two of the Queen’s grandchildren will marry next year, as William and Kate have already named the date for the big day as April 29th 2011 which has since been declared a national holiday.
Zara Phillips, the daughter of Princess Anne and her first husband Captain Mark Phillips, met the rugby player during England’s winning Rugby World Cup campaign in 2003. They’ve been together ever since, moving in together 5 years ago after 2 years of dating.
Buckingham Palace announced the news of the second royal engagement this year, adding that the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are “delighted” at the news.
29-year-old Zara has carved out a successful career as an equestrian rider, winning the World Championship in Eventing in 2006. The same year she was voted BBC Sports Personality of the year.
Tindall plays for the rugby premiership side Gloucester and has won 62 caps for England in the national squad.
No wedding date for Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall has been announced yet.
