The real estate billionaire mogul and presidential candidate is renowned for his eccentric style, always surprising with lavish opinions and belongings alike. This month we discovered that back in the 1980s Trump went out on a search for a ‘proper’ limousine, recognising the sense of status such vehicles can influence.

According to sources Trump required a limo that would show the world just how important he was, wanting a car that stood out when travelling on all roads across the globe. Quickly understanding how profitable bespoke-made vehicles can be, especially when attached to a famous figure, the cogs in Trump’s brain started to turn.

In a plea to make his mark on the automotive world he reached out to both Cadillac and Dillinger-Gaines Coachbuilders, requesting to build him a ‘modern office on wheels’.

In his book, The Art of The Deal, he wrote the following:

“A decision has been made to go into production on two Cadillac-body limousines using my name. The Trump Golden Series will be the most opulent stretch limousine ever made. The Trump Executive Series will be a slightly less lavish version of the same car.”

Trump reportedly issued a request for 50 examples to be built, wanting to launch the limo to the international market. However, Cadillac, a firm which wished to make use of the Trump brand, failed to make anywhere near that number, seeing the project come to a halt.

Features

Where we are used to technologically-driven features in cars today we have to remember that the production of the Series Gold Cadillac Limo was in 1988, with incorporations such as telephones being mind-blowing for its time. Other features of the office limo included:

  • Doors trimmed in leather and gold
  • Pop-up rosewood writing desks
  •  TV
  • VCR
  • Fax machine that fits in a drawer beneath the rear-facing seats.
  • Privacy glass and rosewood dividers
