As 2018 draws to a close, we reflect on the past 12 months, thinking about the wonderful cars that rolled off of the production line. Being a defining year for car manufacturing, 2018 has given us some of the most incredible vehicle creations; vehicles that the Daily Express Motoring Oscars 2018 wish to celebrate.
Naming the winners of the annual awards, you may be surprised by some of the choices!
So, without further ado, below are the cars that reigned supreme:
Best premium electric car: Jaguar I-Pace
Electric cars have no doubt been the focus for 2018, with almost every car manufacturer venturing into this corner of the industry. However, one car that has stood out is the Jaguar I-Pace, gaining the title of ‘Best Premium Electric Car’. As the first premium all-electric SUV, the judges believed the car warranted its £63,000 price tag.
Best sports car: Alpine A110
Now, here’s a category the Limo Broker team were interested in; ‘Best Sports Car’. While a competitive space, the Alpine A110 understandably outshone its competitors. From its lightweight nature to its turbo-charged engine, when it comes to speed and handling, the Alpine ticks all the boxes.
Best mainstream electric: Hyundai Kona EV
Again, wanting to promote the electric side of the industry, the award for ‘Best Mainstream Electric’ was a focus for many. Being a growing division, the win went to the Hyundai Kona EV; a car credited for its 279 mile range.
Best Hatchbacks – Ford Focus/ Kia Ceed
When it comes to hatchbacks, the market is understandably dominated by the Ford Focus; a great car with a competitive price tag. But, this year the Focus had a competitor, sharing the title of ‘Best Hatchback’ with the Kia Ceed.
Best family saloon: Peugeot 508
With family cars, we are spoilt for choice here in Europe. As a category that the French dominate, it came as no surprise when the Peugeot 508 was named ‘Best Family Saloon’.
Next Luxury Car – Bentley Continental
The luxury end of the market is certainly our forte, with the team in total agreeance that Bentley deserved to win the ‘Best Luxury Car’ group. Placing the Bentley Continental GT as the pinnacle of luxury travel, the Daily Express Motoring Oscars felt the car was worth every penny of its £150,000 asking price.
Best hot hatch: Ford Fiesta ST
Lording the Hot Hatch division this year is the Ford Fiesta ST; an incredible-looking car with power in abundance. The new optional Performance Pack extra was no doubt a deciding factor for the judges.
Best 4×4: BMW X5
Last, but by no means least, we have the 4X4 category; with the BMW X5 impressing this year’s judges. Having now graced over 2.2 million customers, this his fourth-generation version is expected to continue the model’s reputation for greatness.
Let us know what you think. Are all of these wins deserved?
