Milton Keynes Council last week issued as warning to parents and school leavers to be extra vigilant when making a booking for a stretch limo for transport to school proms later in the year amid fears that unscrupulous operators are offering cheap rate limos for hire which are not correctly licensed.

The prom season is an extremely busy time of the year for the limousine hire industry as thousands of teens up and down the country clamber to secure the most impressive vehicles so they can arrive in style on their big night. However Milton Keynes Council are warning that many illegal operators are taking advantage of the high volume of prom goers by offering cut price limos which may not be legal for use carrying fare paying customers.

Limousines which are deemed illegal are those which have not been licensed with either the local council of VOSA. As a result, these limos will have not have undergone routine mechanical checks to ensure they are safe for use, and the vehicle may not be insured to carry passengers so it would not be covered in the event of an accident.

The council is urging parents to be vigilant and to get in touch with the council’s licensing department of VOSA if they have any concerns over a limo hire operator they’re placing a booking with for a school prom. Illegal operators often offer heavily discounted rates so if the price you’re quoted seems cheap, you should question why this is.
