Original Ford GT40 Roadster up for sale

The original prototype Ford GT40 Roadster is now on sale- with the sale price expected to be roughly £5 million.

The model is known for being special due to it being the only Roadster that remains in its original specification. It was one of only six to be built.

Coloured in white and dark blue, this GT40 is fitted with a 380bhp V8 engine with a four-speed manual gearbox, with both independent suspension and disc brakes. Not only this, but it comes painted in the recognisable Ford racing stripes.

The GT/108 chassis was delivered to Ford Advanced Vehicles, which was then the pinnacle of Ford’s engineering department. This was incorporated in October 1964, with the bodywork fitted just the following month.

The following March it was tested alongside the GT/105 coupe chassis. This was just before it was shipped to the US for Shelby American with a note of ‘temporary importation for test purposes.’. However, it did stay in the USA permanently.

From that month on it was used as a demonstration vehicle with Shelby’s racing teams and Ford dealerships across the country.

Following a full update in 2003, it was then entered in Pebble Beach Concourse d’Elegance where it came second in the GT40 class. It was then shown in the 2013 Amelia Island Concourse d’Elegance in the midst o the 50th anniversary celebration of the GT40.

The history of the motor was compiled in 2014 by historian Ronnie Spain. It then went on to be sold at the RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction the same year.

Numerous features of this motor are unique. These include the 1965-style nose and the low tail section. This is due to other Roadsters being significantly altered.

Even though a price hasn’t been quoted by Girardo & Co, where the car is set to be on sale, it is expected to bring in an excess of £5 million- a figure which is said to be acceptable due to its heritage.

Country music legend George Strait’s Bentley up for sale

You can now be the king or queen of the road if you buy the Bentley car which was previously owned by the king of music, George Strait.

Reports have disclosed that a 2012 Bentley Continental GTC convertible that was previously owned by the country music singer is for sale, and it comes with an autographed car manual.

The luxurious car is currently on the market for $159,000. It has apparently only done roughly 13,000 miles and comes with cream coloured leather seats, navigation, and multi-zone climate control. These are, of course, just a few of its features.

The current seller of the vehicle, Rolando Cisneros, is the country music star’s neighbour in San Antonio. He apparently purchased the Bentley from Strait a few years ago for a little under $200,000.

The trader that’s dealing with this sale has described it as the “perfect first car”. The car has been viewed online over 40,000 times so far.

Strait signed the owner’s manual when Cisneros bought the car. He apparently also offered to sign the dash for his San Antonio neighbour. Although Cisneros decided to pass on that offer.

If you are interested in purchasing the country music king’s old ride, you may want to jump on the band-waggon fast because according to Cisneros, his phone is ringing off the hook with people begging him to accept their offer. These offers are apparently flooding in from all locations across the globe.

Luxury Rolls-Royce Phantom VI that was once owned by Tom Jones could be yours for £75,000

A stunning Rolls-Royce Phantom VI that was once owned by Tom Jones is on the market for £75,000. Complete with a personalised number plate, the car is up for sale with some lavish modifications which date back to 1971.

The unique registration reads ‘T J BIG’.

According to documents, the Phantom was delivered to Tom Jones’ manager at the time, Gordon Mills.

At the peak of his career, the Welsh singer asked for a bespoke cigar case to be installed into the motor. Additionally, he wanted a Phillips vinyl record player and a Sony TV in the back. Other luxuries include tinted windows, folding tables, curtains and a telephone.

Each of these models were hand-built to special order between 1968 and 1990. Numerous celebrities were amongst the lucky citizens to own one of these cars. Queen Elizabeth II was given a commemorative one to as a Silver Jubilee gift in 1977. She was also presented with a conventional one in 1986.

These cars served her for 25 years and one featured at Kate Middleton and Prince William’s wedding at Westminster Abbey in 2011.

According to documents, the vehicle measures 20ft long and features a huge 6.2 litre V8 engine which reaches a speed of roughly 110mph.

Matt Malamut, from auctioneers RM Sotheby’s, who is selling the car said: “The Phantom VI was the ultimate luxury limousine of its day and was exclusively reserved for Rolls Royce’s most important clients, including heads of state such as Queen Elizabeth II and the Sultan of Brunei.

“Gordon Mills was Tom Jones’ manager at the time of delivery and Tom would often drive or be driven in cars with the license plate T J BIG.

“Therefore, it is likely that Tom Jones owned this car or used it for a period of his career.”

“No two Phantom VIs are exactly alike, which make each and every example unique both in build, provenance, and significance to automotive history.

“The current owner has noted that they are limited on space in their collection, and wish to pass on this car so that it can be displayed and enjoyed by other enthusiasts.”

The car is set to be sold in Santa Monica, California, on June 24th.
