There is only one thing more beautiful than a vintage car; a vintage car with an interesting backstory!
This is why at Limo Broker, we were intrigued to learn about a 1921 Rolls Royce that has emerged. Formerly owned by Rolls Royce Founder, Henry Royce, the car boasts a unique and interesting history.
Used for the manufacturing tycoon to travel between France and England, the vehicle was said to be a favourite of his. And, having seen images of this rather special car, it is easy to see why.
However, after designing and creating the car, Royce experienced a few teething issues with the vehicle. Despite a few bumps in the road, he still gave the car a glowing review, quoted to have said:
‘The ignition is now going well and I am very pleased with the car which I am now driving myself. The roads are so rough that it takes time to sort out what is a bad road and a good car.’
Called The Twenty Goshawk II, the vehicle is the last of its kind to still be in tact, being the epitome of 1920s vehicle design. With four doors, a convertible roof and an old school luggage grid, the idiom ‘they don’t make them like this anymore’ is somewhat appropriate.
Now, the car is up for auction, expected to fetch £120,000.
John Tomlin, of Historics, said: ‘Very seldom does a car with such a wonderful history come to sale.
‘The fact that it is the oldest surviving Rolls-Royce of its type makes it of tremendous interest to any collector worldwide.
‘What’s more, the fact that it was an experimental model, the personal car of Henry Royce, and comes to sale with a fascinating history file elevates its interest and value to an exceptional level.’
