5-year-old Kennedy Quinn from Dundee enjoyed a special day out last week after thoughtful staff at Tayside Children’s Hospital organised a pink-tastic day trip for the brave schoolgirl. At just a few hours old, Kennedy had to undergo an operation after being born with a condition called gastroschisis where her small bowel protruded from her abdomen. At 11 months of age, the tot had major surgery for a double liver and bowel transplant.
The surprise day out was organised for the youngster after what her mother called “a rubbish year” for Kennedy. Because of her condition, the 5-year-old’s immune system is especially low making her more susceptible to picking up seasonal bugs and infections. But mum Shelley says “she is just amazing” adding, “she never lets anything get her down and just gets on with it.”
Kennedy’s big day out started with a free ride in a pink limo, donated by AA Limos, to the beauty and hair salon where she, her mum and Gran were pampered for a morning. The youngster was dressed head to toe in pink with a sparkly princess dress complete with tiara.
After receiving a goodie bag packed full of exciting gifts including a portable DVD player for Kennedy to watch films whilst in hospital, the group were taken to the cinema before stopping off to fill up with sweets at the pick n mix stand. The day certainly went down well with all three ladies and certainly had the desired effect of giving the group a much needed boost to their spirits.
