As you can tell by the vehicles on our website, we are suckers for vintage cars. And, in our opinion, there is only one thing better than a vintage vehicle and that’s a vintage vehicles owned by a celeb!
This is why we were intrigued to learn about a special Rolls Royce up for sale, previously owned by the one and only Liz Taylor.
Created specifically for her wedding, the car is now expected to fetch a huge $7m at auction, with its celebrity association putting millions on the price tag.
But, what is so special about this Roller in particular? Firstly, the car is a rare Rolls Royce Silver Cloud II; one that a gorgeous green body, sprayed to be the exact same colour as the actress’ wedding gown. What’s more is that the classic car boasts a personalised number plate that reads ‘LIZSC2’, being a much-photographed item during her wedding to Eddie Fisher in 1959.
As well as being visually perfect, the car is also mechanically sound. With just 40,644 miles on the clock and only two previous owners, the car hasn’t really done much in its life. That said, Taylor did drive it to Rome back in 1962 to film one of her greatest film achievements, Cleopatra.
Arlan Ettinger, the founding head of Guernsey’s, said the following of this iconic car:
“It was the most glamorous car one could acquire at the time. It was beautiful, but edgy in that it was a convertible. It was not a stately Rolls Royce. It was a Rolls Royce with flare. She had this colour uniquely created just for her…
“The combination of this being a beautiful Rolls Royce and Liz Taylor’s car makes it doubly special. It has a fascinating history. Unlike many celebrities who own a car for a short while and then pass it on, she became identified with this car. She owned it for 20 years.”
The green Rolls Royce is now on display at New York’s Pierre Hotel. Guernseys will be taking bids as of August 6th.
