Despite being asked to tone down her act, Lady Gaga still managed to steal the show this week when she took to the stage before the Queen for the Royal Variety Performance.
The woman who is fast becoming the princess of pop was said to have been delighted when asked to perform for majesty as she revealed, “I’m a massive fan of the Queen.” She added, “I was so excited and have been practising my curtsey.”
The outlandish Gaga set featured the lady herself wearing an outfit she claims was inspired by royalty. She donned a red latex full length dress, complete with a ruffle neck, and 20 foot train trailing behind her; the look was said to have been a reference to Elizabeth 1. The American singer performed whilst suspended 20 foot in the air and played a piano which had also been hoisted up to the heavens for the show-stopping spectacle.
Lady Gaga sang a track entitled Speechless, which she wrote for her father to persuade him to go through with heart surgery. The Paparazzi singer has a close relationship with her father and he had made the trip over to the UK to see her perform at the event at the Blackpool Opera House.
The show was hosted by comedian Peter Kay and it was the first time the event had been held in Blackpool since 1955. Other big names who performed on the night included, Katherine Jenkins, Bette Midler, Lulu, and the winners of this years Britain’s Got Talent, dance troupe Diversity.
