James Bond’s Aston Martin fetches £2.6 million at auction
One of the most iconic cars of the 20th century has been sold at auction for a massive £2.6 million to an American car enthusiast.
The Aston Martin DB5 appeared in two Bond movies namely, Goldfinger and Thunderball, and comes complete with side mounted machine guns, an ejector seat, revolving number plate, and bullet proof shield.
Despite being 46 years old, the 1964 luxury sports car still boasts a top speed of 145mph and can achieve 0-60mph in 7.1 seconds.
Talking after last night’s auction, the winning bidder Harry Yeaggy, admitted it had been a last minute decision to bid for the iconic car and that he’d only flown in from the US at the 11th hour to attempt to buy the car.
The Aston Martin was last sold back in 1969 and achieved a selling price of $12,000. The DB5 is one of a pair of sports cars used in the famous films, however the second car was stolen in 1997 and is now believed to have been destroyed.
Although Mr Yeaggy revealed he’d spent more than he planned to on Bond’s famous ride, he said he can’t wait to “have fun with it” and plans to take it for a spin around the streets of London before having the vehicle shipped out to the States. The new owner plans to put the car on display at a motor museum in Ohio.
