The Hollywood great who starred in classic films such as Some Like it Hot and The Defiant Ones has passed away at the age of 85 on Wednesday September 29th.

Tony Curtis died at his home in Nevada after suffering a cardiac arrest, it has been reported. The actor had been in poor health since the summer after he was hospitalised in July. The Oscar nominated actor suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and would often have difficulties breathing.

The charismatic actor enjoyed seven decades in show business after signing up to Universal Pictures in 1948 and releasing his first ever film in his early 20’s. He continued to appear on screen right up until two years ago when he performed in his last ever movie, the drama David and Fatima.

However Tony Curtis will be forever remembered for his role in the classic movie Some Like It Hot in which he appeared opposite the late Marilyn Monroe and Jack Lemmon. His greatest achievement in his acting career came when he was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in the movie The Defiant Ones. In later life he became very interested in art and took up painting.

Life wasn’t all plain sailing for the Hollywood star, he battled alcohol and drug addiction for much of his life and even spent a spell in rehab. Tony was also married six times and is father to actresses Kelly and Jamie Lee Curtis.
