Stretched limousines are commonly utilised by political figures. From Donald Trump and Barack Obama to Kim Jong Un and Theresa May; most leaders opt for long wheelbase limos to get from A to B.
This week, First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, has been criticised for her use of limousines, with her top team said to have spent a huge £1.3m on limo trips.
Reports show that the team enjoyed over 10,755 car journeys last year alone, raking up one rather large bill that the taxpayer inevitably settled.
The cars are part of a 24-strong fleet reserved for office officials, taking them to and from appointments.
But, it is not just the cost that has resulted in a backlash, it is the environmental impact of these trips.
Tory MSP Miles Briggs said:
“The blatant hypocrisy of the SNP is simply jaw-dropping.
“In the same year the First Minister declared a climate emergency, they’ve increased their car usage.
“It’s one rule for the SNP government and another for ordinary Scots.”
However, a Government spokesperson kept to their defence, saying:
“We look for ways to minimise vehicle use for official journeys for example, by car-sharing.
“Ministers can also use public transport or walk to their engagements.
“This isn’t always practical if they need to carry out sensitive government business during a journey.”
