£220,000 Ferrari 458 Italia Hire Car Smashed to Smithereens

Where limo hire used to be the ultimate form of luxury transportation it seems that self-drive supercar rental has overtaken, with cars like Ferraris Lamborghinis and Audi R8s extremely popular here in the UK. Being a favoured option for those celebrating weddings, proms, birthdays and other important occasions the UK transport industry is constantly introducing new cars available for hire, cars with an incredibly high price tag.

This week a 29-year-old who paid a £5,000 deposit plus £850 a day to rent a Ferrari crashed it, living out every hire company’s nightmare.

With just 4,600 miles on the clock the 458 Italia hit a brick wall and wedged itself underneath a VW Passat taxi, prematurely ending the car’s life on the road.

Bedfordshire Police confirmed the details of the incident.

“We were called at approximately 7pm on Sunday to reports of a three vehicle road traffic collision in which one car collided with a wall.

“The incident happened in Selbourne Road and involved a Ferrari, a VW Passat and a Vauxhall Astra.”

What the owners had to say

Co-owner Jamie Ford, 26, from Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex, said: “When I saw what had happened I was absolutely devastated.

“They have done a really good job of crashing it and writing it off. It took three minutes for the insurance assessors to write it off.

“I just wish people had more respect for super cars. People need to realise that they are not invincible.”

He added: “We can deal with scratches and little dents, but this is absolutely gutting.”

Claiming that many do not understand what it means to drive such a powerful, high-value vehicles the owners of the Italia have been left extremely annoyed by the events of the week, urging those that rents such cars to take more care when behind the wheel.

Police Investigate Rogue Limo Company After School Prom No Show

As a parent you feel an overarching need to give your children the best of the best, especially when they have done something to be proud of such as finishing school. With most parents footing the bill for dresses, suits, jewellery and the evening meal school proms can get expensive, especially when arranging the limos.

Parents of P7 pupils at Quarryhill Primary School in Aberdeen paid £50 each for their child to ride in a limo to prom, parting with their hard earned cash to make their child’s day a special one. With the limo not showing up whatsoever you can imagine the frustration that these mums and dads felt, going straight to the limo company for some answers.

Failing to even get hold of the gentlemen they booked the vehicle through it quickly became apparent that they had been done over, with the limo company proving to not only have let them down but to not even exist.

Hollywood limos to the rescue

News of this let down inevitably made its way through Dundee with fellow parents and business owners disgusted by the regretful ordeal. Being the limo industry’s busiest day of the year the parents found it impossible to find a replacement, however one operator, Hollywood Limos, were extremely sympathetic.

Veronica Cook, managing director of Hollywood Limos, said she ‘could just see their poor wee faces when they found out and couldn’t have that’.

Deciding to send one of their limos the company helped claw back a bit of luxury for the students, allowing them to experience

“I could only send a limo for photographs but if I could have done more I would have.”

Let us know what you think about this disheartening story by leaving your thoughts below.

Are we set to experience the Limo Revolution in 2015?

Where many believe in the phrase ‘less is more’ we at Limo Broker could not disagree more, believing that the bigger the limo the better the ride. Being such passionate assenters of the stretched limo you can imagine our excitement when finding out that the custom-made XJR supersaloon limo can reach speeds on 170mph.

Built by British coach-builder Wilcox Limousines, the vehicle employs a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine pushing out an impressive 542bhp. Having been creating limousines and hearses from Jaguar cars since 1969 the company is now an approved partner of Jaguar, permitted to stretch and amend any of their marques.

The amendment trend

This is just one example of mechanics and builders restructuring models with the latest party bus to hit the UK, The Starline Limo Bus, being created from a Mercedes Printer. Dubbed ‘the future of luxury transportation’ it seems we are in an age of limo revolution, with manufacturers all over the world trialling and testing new things. The creators on the Starline say:

‘The modern market now want something a little more from their vehicles, especially if they are just hiring them for a short while. This has fed this latest trend in vehicle stretching and engine amendment with people craving faster speeds and more exciting vehicle features’.

Built with a unique set of features inside the limo bus you will find:

  • Two flat-screen televisions
  • A Karaoke machine with thousands of songs
  • A surround sound system
  • A Champagne bar and fridge
  • Ice storage
  • Disco lighting (with a lazar show feature)
  • Glittered carpet and ceiling
  • Wi-Fi

Where did our love for limos come from?

According to Stretching It: The Story of the Limousine:

‘Limos originated in the early 1900s. The first cars were simple covered coaches with drivers, a great luxury for many.’

‘The words ‘limousine’ and ‘chauffeur’ have roots in the pre-1900 days of carriages and trains whereby professional drivers and ‘stokers’ would manage the vehicles, seeing passengers inundated with luxury.

‘Limousines quickly became associated with wealth and status as aristocrats, film stars and presidents emerged from their doors. Entrepreneurs eventually saw the value in expanding the cars’ accessibility.’
