A Big Year for BMW, Rolls Royce and Mini

As you will be well aware, here at Limo Broker we are luxury car fanatics, enjoying nothing more than adding new, beautiful chauffeur cars and sports cars to our already-exquisite fleet. Enjoying chauffeuring our customers for high-end events such as weddings, proms, birthday parties and corporate events, we are naturally in demand for Rolls Royces, BMWs and the likes; vehicles that possess a certain je ne sais quoi!

And, over the course of the last 12 months, we have witnessed a notable trend, with more and more of our customers showing an interest in vehicles from said brands. This is something that has been noticed globally, with sales of such vehicles rocketing in 2018.

According to BMW Group, the number of owners of BMW, Rolls Royce and Mini vehicles rose substantially in 2018, with the firm enjoying a record-breaking year.

Figures released by the firm show that the group sold a 2.49 million cars during this defining year. However, with Daimler yet to reveal their statistics to the public, we are do not know whether or not BMW have yet again beat Mercedes Benz and the likes to the top.

“BMW Group achieved record sales in 2018. 2.49 million vehicles mean the BMW Group is the world’s leading premium automotive company for the 15th year running,” said Chief Executive of the group, Harald Krueger confirmed in a recent statement.

However, this is no real surprise, with the BMW X5 and the Rolls Royce Cullinan both being the recipients of a string of high-profile awards during the course of the year. As brands that seem to have perfected the balance between style and sustainable motoring, can we expect a repeat performance in 2019? We would love to hear your thoughts and opinions on this subject. Will the BMW Group reign supreme yet again?

Putin’s Limo Can Now be Yours

In recent years, we have seen the war of the presidential limo reach new heights, with Trump and Putin going head-to-head, eager to outshine one another with their state limousines. While both sporting exceptional motors, many of us have become fascinated by Putin’s Aurus limousine; a car developed especially for the presidential motorcade.

As a new brand, many believed his choice of car to be risky, ditching the trusty Mercedes limo for a new, untested model.

A ‘bunker on wheels’

Described as a ‘bunker of wheels’ the limousine puts safety and passenger comfort as priorities; two features that will no doubt served the president well daily.

Due to the limo’s success, the Aurus will now enter full mass production, giving everyone the chance to own their very own Aurus limo. But, this story comes as no surprise, with expansion having been on the brand’s radar for many years now.

“We have started receiving signals from various countries about their desire to buy the [Aurus] limousine. Bahrain is among such countries. But while mass production has not been set up yet, there are only a few cars available. In the future, it will be possible,” the representative said back in 2017.

5000 limos to be made

According to sources, the production line will begin in 2020, with the facilities of Russia’s automobile company, Sollers, being utilised for the project.

Trade Minister, Denis Manturov, made the announcement just this week, revealing that some 5,000 Aurus cars will be produced per year. So far, the brand has only been producing limousines and Sedans. However, with this extra capacity and further investment, the range is set to expand dramatically, stamping Aurus’ name in the Russian manufacturing industry for the foreseeable future.

An off-road vehicle entitled the Aurus Komendant is also set to roll off the production line before 2022; a project that the drivers of Russia eagerly await.

The aim of the brand was to position Russia as a world leader in vehicle manufacturing; a target Aurus is getting closer to on a daily basis. Let us know what you think. Will this project be a success?

Theresa May Locked in Her Limo

It goes without saying that UK Prime Minister, Theresa May, has had a tough week or so. Being in the latter stages of Brexit negotiations, May has travelled the world to finalise details of her proposed deal.

The Conservative leader delayed a parliamentary vote on the Brexit deal this week, having come under great criticism by pretty much everyone.

Having visited Netherlands, Germany and Brussels, May has had her fair share of limo rides. However, yesterday’s trip was by far the most dramatic.

According to reporters, Theresa May was locked inside of her limousine in Germany for a brief while. Locked in the car in front of German leader, Angela Merkel, May was apparently locked in the car for over 10 seconds, with her team having to prise the door open. When finally released, the Prime Minister enjoyed a friendly handshake with Merkel, appearing pretty relieved to be free.

Bedecked in Britain’s Union Flag, the limousine understandably caught the attention of the press, with this awkward encounter publicised to the masses.

It has now been announced that May’s Brexit deal has been pushed back to the House of Commons “before January 21”. A spokesperson claimed that May will review the “spirit” of the EU Withdrawal Act by then. However, Commons authorities suggested that the a deal may to be reached until as late as March 28th; the day before Brexit is scheduled.

There has now been many calls for Theresa May to stand down as Prime Minister. Former Minister, Steve Baker, says it is her “duty” to stand down:

“The Prime Minister believes it is her duty to deliver on the will of the British people and take us out of the EU.”

Mr Baker told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme:

“If we can’t go forwards with her deal … then I’m afraid the only way to change the policy is to change the Prime Minister, and I really think it’s her duty to go.”

Let us know what you think. Is a dodgy child lock on a limo the least if May’s problems?

Donald Trump Attends Bush Funeral in Luxury Limo

Presidential limos are a subject of complete fascination for us, with authoritative public figures always making big displays of vehicle eccentricity. This is especially the case when it comes to key political events. This is why we were not surprised at the way in which President Donald Trump arrived to the funeral of George HW Bush last week.

A 9-car convoy

According to sources, the American leader arrived at Blair House to visit grieving relatives of the bush family. While a nice gesture, the president has been criticised for arriving in The Beast limousine accompanied by an 8-vehicle motorcade. Trump came under fire for using the 9 motors to travel a mere 250 yards, with many concerned over the environmental impact of just a journey.

Travelling just a few blocks from the White House, it is still unknown whether this 9-car convoy was a security measure or the personal preference of the President’s.

While many have been eager to pass comment on Trump’s decision to travel down the road in this way, former President, Barack Obama, was equally as lavish when it came to transport. Renowned for closing roads in Washington and employing full motorcades, Obama, like Trump, took no risks.

But, this was arguably the work of the Secret Service. In Mrs Michelle Obama’s recent autobiography, she revealed how the Secret Service often requested she or her husband “take the motorcade instead of walking” to Blair House.

A repeat performance

But, this is not the first time Donald Trump has been criticised for choosing a motor over his legs. Last year at the G-7 Summit, Trump was bashed for traveling via golf cart as the rest of the world’s leaders walked and posed for group photographs.

Let us know what you think about this story. Should Trump always place safety as a priority or should he be stretching his legs more? Leave your comments with us.
