Rolls Royce limo once owned by Churchill makes public appearance

A Rolls Royce limousine once owned Winston Churchill made a public appearance in Henley, Oxfordshire last week.

The 1925 classic Rolls Royce 20/25 was parked outside the Kenton Theatre in Henley which was holding a lecture on the Enigma machine, an encryption device used to decipher codes during World War 2. An example of an Enigma machine was on display at the theatre as part of the event.

The Rolls Royce limo was owned by Frank Jenner who ran a private hire and taxi business in Kent during the war. Although the vehicle was owned by Winston Churchill, Jenner was named as the registered keeper of the luxury car as Prime Minister of the time didn’t want to be seen to be extravagant.

Frank Jenner continued to act as Churchill’s chauffeur until his retirement in 1964.

The classic Rolls Royce was then bought by Alan Dyson in 1998 who runs a vintage car company in Wallingford. Mr Dyson had the vehicle fully restored and now offers the famous car for hire for weddings, birthdays and other special occasions.

If you’re looking for a vintage wedding car for your big day, the classic Rolls Royce formerly owned by Winston Churchill will certainly add another dimension to your occasion, and provide a talking point for your guests.

Wedding car hire plea to fulfil dying man’s wish

Groom from Northamptonshire puts out plea for Rolls Royce wedding car after being diagnosed with terminal cancer

A couple from Northampton have put out a plea for a Rolls Royce wedding car for their big day. The pair, who were childhood sweethearts, have decided to tie the knot after the groom was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

However with limited funds for the wedding, the couple are hoping that a wedding car hire service in the local area may be able to provide them with a vehicle free of charge to complete their big day.

Horace Prescott and Dawn Barrett met as teenagers living in London. However they lost contact after Dawn’s family moved away. As luck would have it, the pair met up again years later and rekindled their romance, they’ve now been together for the past 10 years.

Mr Prescott was diagnosed with bowel and bladder cancer 3 years ago. He underwent major surgery to remove the growth. However the couple were told a few weeks ago that the cancer had returned, and there was little the medical teams could do at this point.

After receiving the bad news, Mr Prescott wasted no time in getting down on one knee and asking the love of his life to marry him. Ms Barrett agreed, and they swung into action to get the wedding plans in place.

The wedding is due to take place on Saturday and Ms Barrett is calling for anyone who maybe able to provide them with a Rolls Royce wedding car to get in touch. The bride says she wants desperately to give her husband-to-be “something back for all he’s given me” and knows it would make his day to have to ride to the ceremony in the back of a Rolls Royce.

One couple’s wedding limo turned out to be a big rig

Forget your vintage Rolls Royce’s and your white stretch limos, one couple from Kilmarnock shunned tradition and arrived at the church in a 30 foot long lorry on their wedding day.

The happy pair, Sandy Mortimer and Tracy Surgeon, were unaware of the wedding car hire which had been booked on their behalf by a family member. But far from being a practical joke, Sandy’s Uncle Ian had good intentions at heart as Sandy explained: “My dad Jim was a lorry driver for over 35 years. It was a really heartwarming surprise and brought back a lot of memories for me.”

Needless to say the whole wedding party also appreciated the unusual choice of wedding car and many clambered aboard and enjoyed a ride to a nearby park to take part in the wedding photographs. The big rig then transported the rest of the wedding crew to the reception at Howard Park Hotel.

It seems the colossal truck certainly proved a talking point in the town with crowds of local people stopping to catch a glimpse of the unconventional wedding car. The groom said that he and his bride felt “like celebrities for the day” with “Everybody in the town looking and waving.” Whether they’ve started a craze of wedding trucks in Kilmarnock remains to be seen, but these newlyweds certainly had a day to remember with their chauffeur driven big rig.
