Kylie Minogue is planning a musical based on her hit songs

Aussie pop star Kylie Minogue revealed in a recent magazine interview that she is planning to write a musical based on her greatest hits.

The 41-year-old actress and singer is working on the project with William Baker. The pair have collaborated before as Baker worked as Kylie’s stylists and creative director on a number of her tours. Baker also has West End experience having directed the 2007 revival of the musical Rent.

Very little has been revealed about the plot for the new musical, however the singer is adamant it will not be based on her life story, and neither will she take on the lead role as she said: “I’m comfortable because it’s not about my life story; it’s about the interpretation of music.”

The hits of Abba, Queen, and Rod Stewart have all previously been turned into stage musical. Mama Mia, which featured the back catalogue of Abba tracks, was one of the biggest success stories and was even turned into a Hollywood blockbuster starring Meryl Streep. A musical, featuring the hits of 90’s girl band the Spice Girls, is currently in production.

The Australian star is also planning to release a brand new album this July entitled Aphrodite.

Following the runaway success of their 2008 reunion tour, the Spice Girls announced they wanted to end on a high, and would be calling an end to their performing days. However it seems the band is set for an en-core, this time in the form of a West End Musical.

The producer behind musical sensation Mama Mia! is set to work her magic on the creating the next big thing to hit London’s West End: Spice Girls the musical. The girl band’s manager, Simon Fuller, is also working on the show which will be based on the life and times of the 90’s chart-topping group, and will feature their music.

The project, which will be produced by Judy Cramer and Simon Fuller, has been given the working title of Viva Forever, which was a number one hit for the band back in 1998.

During the height of their fame, Baby, Sporty, Ginger, Posh, and Scary brought girl power to the world, notching up a string of hits and selling 75 million records worldwide. The new musical, which is set to debut in London this November, is hoping to emulate this success.

The Spice Girls are said to be very excited about the upcoming production, according to Simon Fuller. Although the girls won’t perform in the musical themselves, they are said to be involved in the development process, working alongside the show’s producers.
