Simon Cowell hires a fleet of limos to transport guests to his 50th birthday bash

Simon Cowell hires limos for guests at 50th bash

Simon Cowell’s birthday bash certainly didn’t disappoint. The well connected X-Factor judge invited an army of 400 celebrity friends along to Wrotham Park, Hertfordshire, to celebrate his big 50 in style. The star studded event was a tongue-in-cheek ego fest which featured table cloths with Simon’s silhouette, waiters wearing Cowell masks, and inside each toilet cubicle was a framed picture of the birthday boy whilst a DVD of various celebrities speaking in glowing terms about Simon played on a loop in the back ground.

However the music mogul didn’t forget to treat his guests on his big day. A fleet of top of the range limousines complete with suited chauffeurs were hired to transport guests from central London to the luxurious marquee in Hertfordshire. The revelry carried on until the wee small hours with the birthday boy finally calling it a night just before 5am. He was chauffeured home in his favourite vehicle, a black Rolls Royce Phantom.

Amongst the glittering guest list which read like a bumper issue of heat magazine, were several of Simon’s old flames including Terri Seymour, Sinitta and Jackie St Claire. His mother Julie Cowell had pride of place next to her son at the top table whilst fellow X-Factor judge Cheryl Cole, minus husband Ashley, sat on his other side. Other notable celebs who attended included Danni Minogue and Louis Walsh, Katie Price (who arrived late) David Hasslehoff, Gordon Ramsey, Kevin Spacey, Kate Moss and retail billionaire and Top Shop owner Sir Philip Green whose wife, Tina, organised the whole event.

Not surprisingly for someone who made millions out of the music industry, the entertainment was suitably spectacular. Leona Lewis and Alexandra Burke performed as well as retro band Earth Wind and Fire plus a tribute Frank Sinatra act. The whole party reportedly set the Cowell back a cool £1 million; let’s hope the straight talking judge who admits to not liking parties much managed to enjoy himself.

An Electric Rolls Royce Phantom could be on the way

Are Rolls Royce planning an electric Phantom?

Are Rolls Royce planning an electric Phantom?

Reports are emerging that Rolls Royce are planning to jump on the eco bandwagon and provide an electric vehicle of their own. It has been suggested that The Rolls Royce Phantom will be the first vehicle to get the green make-over.

A hapless Rolls Royce employee added fuel to fire when he accidentally made a comment to the media at U.K motoring event, Goodwood Revival. The unnamed source apparently dropped hints that Rolls Royce were developing an electric car after mentioning lithium-ion battery packs during a discussion with a journalist.

The Chief Executive of Rolls Royce, Tom Purves, has made no secret of his admiration for environmentally friendly cars. Only last year, after taking the electric Mini for a spin, Mr Purves commented on how impressed he was with the vehicle. He said in an interview with Car magazine that an electric power plant would be perfect for Rolls Royce, adding: “We stand for unmatched refinement and you can’t get a quieter and less intrusive engine than a well-engineered electric motor.”

The insightful Rolls Royce boss said he could foresee a time when conventional gas-guzzling vehicles are banned from city centers and urban districts. With the introduction of strict congestion areas in U.K cities it’s likely this prediction is pretty close to the mark.

Given Mr. Purves’s comments, it’s fair to expect that Rolls Royce have some substantial electric car plans up their sleeve.

Vintage Rolls Royce Phantom could become the world’s most expensive car

Rolls Royce Phantom estimated to sell for £8.5 million

A 1934 vintage Rolls Royce Phantom built for the Marharajah of Rajkot is due to go under the hammer today and if it reaches the selling price of £8.5 million estimated by experts, it will become the world’s most expensive car. Known as The Star of India the exclusive limo goes up for auction alongside 23 other Rolls Royce vehicles and 3 Bentley’s as part of renowned car enthusiast, Hans-Gunther Zach’s collection.

The eye catching Roller features ochre and aluminium bodywork which may be a little garish for some people’s tastes however in India it is a symbol of purity. It was referred to as the “aluminium sculpture” due to its natural aluminium body and chassis. The interior is equally lavish with tan leather upholstery and oak wood panelling which has been marbled with saffron paste. The Marharajah’s state crest is still displayed on all the windows and doors.

This Rolls Royce obviously oozes opulence and luxury, however it also had a practical function. The all-weather 8 seater convertible was used to hunt tigers out in the wilderness and was designed to cope with the rough terrain, it even has a gun rack built into the chassis.

The Star of India, named after the world’s largest sapphire, will learn its fate today after bids for the unique vehicle are drawn to close. In order to claim the title of  the world’s most expensive car, the Rolls Royce Phantom needs to outsell the current record holder, a certain 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa which sold for £7.9 million. Can the Star of India clinch it? We’ll have to wait and see…
