School prom fair in Scarborough introduces the best prom limos

The best prom limousines to be showcased as part of Scarborough's prom show

As youngsters all over the UK gear up for their upcoming school proms, special events are being held up and down the country to help with that all-important preparation. Now Scarborough has announced their own School Prom Fair which promises to help prom-goers in their quest to find the perfect dress, limo, and hairstyle for the big night.

In the past few years the craze for the American style school prom has taken the UK by storm. Now almost every secondary school in the country holds an annual prom to mark the end of the school year.

Scarborough’s school prom fair is being organised by Beautiful Brides and is due to take place on Wednesday evening at Scarborough Rugby Club. The manager of Beautiful Brides, Anne Greenwood, admitted to being a “little nervous” as this is the first prom fair they’d arranged. However Mrs Greenwood added that they are confident the event will be a success as they’d received a positive response from the local schools.

A great range of local suppliers will be present at the fair including suit hire companies, beauty salon and hairdressing representatives, and limo hire firms. They’ll be able to provide you with useful tips and advice on the best limousines and looks to suit your prom. There’ll also be a fashion show displaying the latest trends in prom dresses and suits.

The first ever Worcestershire school prom fair took place last Saturday and proved such a success, that they’re considering turning it into an annual event.

The prom featured a range of exhibitors including photographers, prom dress and suit specialists and prom limo hire experts. Visitors were given a glimpse at some of the hottest dresses and suits to be seen in at next year’s prom season as a series of cat walk shows took place during the day.

A number of top beauty and styling experts were also present and were able to offer professional make-up and hair advice to the youngsters attending the fair. Every visitor to the event was given an essential “Prom Bible” offering a complete run-down of everything a prom-goer needs to know before the big day.

Of course, making an entrance on your prom night is an extremely important aspect, and luckily there were several limo hire companies in attendance at the fair showcasing some of their most impressive vehicles. A wide range of limousines are available for prom hire including the stretch limo Lincoln Town Car, the hummer limo and the vintage car for the traditional look.

The whole event was organised by the owner of a local clothing boutique, Jill Mills of Promesse. A number of dresses from her shop were modelled as part of the catwalk show and were a big hit with the audience.

Having attracted an estimated 700 people through the door at last Saturday’s event, the school prom fair in Worcester looks set to become a permanent figure in the local calendar.

Bristol duo’s plot to overthrow the American-style school prom

American school prom shunned by Bristol school pupils

A pair of school pupils from Bristol have a master plan to bring down the trend sweeping the UK for expensive American-style school proms, and instead bring back the traditional school leavers party. The year 10 pupils believe the school prom puts far too much financial pressure on students from poorer backgrounds who often struggle to afford all of the luxurious accessories considered vital for the glamorous prom night.

Girls are under particular pressure to look the part for the important event which is often considered the highlight of the school year. As well as the dazzling princess dress there’s also the all-important accessories to consider, professionally done hair and make-up, a spray tans and even manicures. On top of this, many prom-goers choose to make an entrance of their big night and often fork out for an expensive chauffeur driven limo.

All of this doesn’t come cheap, and for 14-year-old Lauren Collett and Anna Jordan, enough is enough. The duo are powering ahead with their plan to organise an end of year party that doesn’t rely upon flashy accessories to be a success.

The girls have already rounded up several local bands who are willing to provide the entertainment at their back-to-basics school party. Lauren said, “Our idea is to take the expense, Americanisms and social exclusions out of school prom and just turn it into a freakin’ sweet party.”

The board of governors at a school in New Jersey, USA, have voted to exclude limos from its 2010 school prom. Instead a fleet of chartered buses will be ordered to transport the prom-goers to the big event. Not only will coach hire cut down on the costs of attending the prom, but it will also ensure that all students are transported safely and will deter them from taking their own cars and driving themselves back late at night.

It has been decided that 18 buses will be ordered to carry the students to the event which is scheduled to take place on June 5th 2010. Last year more than 800 pupils attended the occasion which is the highlight in the school’s calendar.

Only one member of the board of education was against the idea and he decided to abstain from the vote. Therefore the motion was passed with a majority vote of 8-0.

The school principal, Brett Charleston, said that the suggestion was initially made by the students themselves via the school council. Their reasoning behind the idea was that it would be far cheaper to hire a bus as opposed to a limo as the prom is due to be held at a venue an hours drive from the high school.

It was estimated that for 6 people to hire a limo it would cost $75 each. A coach on the other hand would be less than half the price at $21 a piece.

There will be festivities at the school beforehand and students are allowed to hire a limo to take them to this stage of the celebrations.
