Chauffeur driven limo collects Pink Floyd guitarist’s son from jail

Charlie Gilmour, the son of Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour, left prison in the back of a chauffeur driven limo this week after serving a quarter of his sentence for violent disorder during the December student fee demo.

The 65-year-old guitarist was thought to be waiting inside the chauffeur driven Mercedes when 21-year-old Charlie was seen leaving the medium security Wayland Prison near Thetford, Norfolk.

The luxury car took the reunited party to the family’s mansion home in Sussex where the Cambridge student must keep to a strict curfew for the next four months while he’s electronically tagged. After the four months are up, he will serve the last half of his jail sentence on probation.

The adopted son of the Pink Floyd star was jailed in July for 16 months after pleading guilty to the charge of violent disorder during the student riots of last December. Charlie Gilmour was photographed swinging from the Cenotaph Union flag, and also hurled a bin at the passing Rolls Royce carrying the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Following his release from the Norfolk prison, Cambridge University, where the 21-year-old was studying for a degree in history, will decide whether or not to allow Charlie to return to his studies. The son of the Pink Floyd guitarist has been released after serving just a quarter of his 16-month jail term.

Mercedes confirm C-Class Coupé

Mercedes Benz have confirmed that the new C-Class Coupé is ready to be revealed, and will go on sale this summer.

The new model will be a sporty take on the Mercedes C-Class Saloon and will be available in two engine sizes, and both diesel and petrol fuelled versions.

The C-Class coupé will make its much anticipated debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month, before going on sale in June, just in time for the sunny summer weather when most of us wish we drove a convertible.

Mercedes say the C-Class coupé is aimed at the 35-45 year old market and the luxury car manufacturer hope the new model will attract new customers who may have not previously considered buying a Mercedes vehicle.

The sporty numbers will be available in a 1.8 litre engine and a 2.1 litre diesel engine with two outputs of 306bhp 3.5 litre V6 petrol and the fastest version is the C530 V6 which achieves a top speed of 155mph and 0-62mph in just 6 seconds.

To add extra kudos to the new Mercedes convertible, the car will come complete with 18 inch AMG alloy wheels, and all cars will have agility control as standard, sports suspension, and speed sensitive steering. The added benefit with the diesel version is the superb fuel efficiency as this version of the 4-seat sports car is able to achieve 64.2 mpg.

Look out for more information and exclusive pictures of the Mercedes C-Class Coupé in the coming weeks.

Mariah Carey's limo demands

Mariah Carey more than lived up to her diva credentials this weekend after a disagreement over her chauffeur driven limo. The chart topping songstress is in the UK ahead of her appearance on the X-Factor next weekend and also to promote her new album, Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel.

The singer recorded her performance for the X-Factor yesterday but not before a lengthy delay whilst an acceptable chariot was found for the star. Initially a top class Mercedes complete with a chauffeur was sent to take Mariah to the studios, but this wasn’t deemed exclusive enough for a star of Mariah’s stature and was then replaced by a £250,000 Mercedes Maybach.

However the Maybach limo was also rejected and then, third-time-lucky, a Rolls Royce Phantom was dispatched. The vehicle was even provided free of charge by the London Motor Museum. Despite being a super luxurious vehicle, the limo wasn’t quite up to scratch for Miss Carey. The limo was then decorated with vinyl graphics of butterflies in a nod to the singer’s 1997 album entitled butterfly.

But another glitch raised its head when Mariah’s management ordered the images be taken down after they complained that the London Motor Museum was gaining free advertising after they added their name along with the butterfly graphics.

Hours later the US superstar emerged from her room in the Dorchester Hotel where she was greeted by a sea of fans and photographers. Mariah’s appearance on the X-Factor has already caused controversy after she pulled out of a provisional booking to perform on rival show Strictly Come Dancing, on the orders of Simon Cowell.

Arizona bar owners introduce complimentary chauffeur driven limos

Arizona bars offer free chauffeur service

US bar and restaurant owners in the state of Arizona have launched a complimentary chauffeur driven limo service as part of a new incentive to get customers back in their establishments. The move has been welcomed by safety groups who praised the responsible action taken by publicans to deter drinkers from getting behind the wheel after one too many.

After stricter laws and tougher penalties for those caught driving over the limit were introduced, bar and restaurant owners noted a distinct drop in the number of customers ordering alcohol. Add the dire economic climate into the mix and the result was many establishments struggling to stay afloat.

Restaurant and bar owners joined forces with a selection of chauffeur hire companies in Arizona with a view to offering customers a safe and hassle free solution for getting home after a night out. Now customers can be taken to their restaurant or pub of choice and chauffeured home in the back of a party bus, Mercedes limo or a Lincoln Town Car.

So far the plan seems to be working. The scheme is encouraging customers back through the restaurant doors and at the same time, helping to crack down on drunk drivers. Both the limo hire companies and the restaurants and bars are benefitting from the programme with increased business. The establishments pay a nominal fee to the chauffeur service for every trip undertaken, a price they are willing to pay as the costs will be recouped from the money the chauffeured customers will undoubtedly spend having a good time.

Bar owner Jesse Latshaw said that the scheme has so far been “incredibly successful” and is helping to get businesses back on their feet.

Iraqi shoe-thrower will be given a limo

Who could forget the moment when an Iraqi journalist stood up at a press conference and pelted the former President of the U.S with the shoes off his own feet? One Bahraini businessman was so impressed with 28-year-old Zaidi’s bold action that he’s planning to reward him with a luxury Mercedes limousine.

Zaidi was sentenced to serve a 3 year jail sentence for his outburst however this has now been reduced to 12 months due to good behaviour. He is now scheduled to be released on September 14th and his new friend, Quresh Khan Buneeri will be waiting with the unexpected surprise.

The generous businessman, Mr Buneeri, plans to drive the limo to Baghdad himself upon Zaidi’s release. Since announcing that he intends to gift the journalist with his limo he says he has “cared meticulously” for the vehicle. He now plans to spend a few days preparing the limo for its new owner to ensure it is in top shape.

The impassioned eruption was watched in astonishment by audiences around the world as the Iraqi journalist, who worked for an al-Baghdadia television network, stood up just feet away from President George. W. Bush and announced in Arabic: “This is a gift from the Iraqis; this is the farewell kiss, you dog!” However the fearless 28-year-old wasn’t content with just throwing one shoe, so he removed his other one and threw that too following up with “This is from the widows, the orphans and those who were killed in Iraq!”

Mr Buneeri isn’t Zaidi’s only supporter, thousands of people demonstrated in protest to his conviction and subsequent jail sentence; however he is the only one who will be offering the newly released man a limo ride.
