John Lennon’s Ferrari, the first car he ever owned, is to go under the hammer at Bonhams auction house early next month.

The bright blue 1965 Ferrari GT 2 & 2 Coupe was the first car he bought after passing his test. Lennon purchased the sports car in the same year the Beatles released their hit singles Ticket to Ride and Help.

According to reports from the 60’s, a number of luxury car manufacturers descended on the Beatles member with offers of cars when the news got out that he’d passed his test. Despite the generous offers from several top name car brands, Lennon opted for the sleek Ferrari in an unusual shade of blue costing £2,000 in 1965.

Although the legendary singer owned the Ferrari for less than a year, the sports car is expected to fetch between £120,000 and £170,000.

The most famous car owned by John Lennon was the Rolls Royce Phantom V Limo decorated in psychedelic colours. The bright yellow limousine was painted by a friend of Lennon’s with flower and leaf patterns. Lennon bought the Phantom in 1965, the same year as the he passed his test and purchased the Ferrari. The Rolls Royce is currently on display at the Royal BC Museum in Victoria, Canada.

The 1965 Ferrari is due to be sold at auction on February 4th at Bonhams, Paris.

Vintage sports car once owned by a screen starlet to fetch $4m at auction

The 51-year-old flamboyant sports car still turns heads today

An eye catching Delahaye Type 175S Roadster once owned by screen starlet Diana Dors is predicted to fetch a whopping $4 million when it goes under the hammer in the States later this month.

The bright turquoise sporty number is still a head turner today and is especially rare as it is one of only 51 175S Roadsters to be made. Despite the fact she couldn’t drive at the time, nor did she have a licence, the British born star acquired the luxury vehicle at the tender ago of just 17.

Made in 1949 by French manufacturer Delahaye, the sports car is a celebration of European design described by one expert as a “rolling sculpture” due to its outlandish appearance.

At some point it’s believed Dors sold the Roadster and it found its way to the US. The extravagant car has undergone intense restoration and is not back to its very best with a bright turquoise and white leather trim interior, and Perspex steering wheel.

As well as looking the business, the convertible also packs a punch when it comes to its performance. The 4 litre engine produces 165bhp and enables the 51-year-old car to reach estimated speeds of 75mph which is pretty respectable for a vehicle of this vintage.

The curvaceous car is due to be auctioned in California later this month and is expected to fetch between $4-$6 million.
