Prince demands chauffeur driven limo for 25 metre ride to the stage

Pop singer Prince likes to travel in luxury it seems, even if he is travelling just 25 metres, after it was revealed that the US singer demanded a chauffeur driven limo to ferry him the short walk from his back stage dressing room to the performance area on Sunday night when he performed at the Hop Farm Music Festival.

The American hit maker left festival organiser flabbergasted with this list of demands which would have made even the biggest divas blush.

Prince reportedly asked for his dressing room to be made to his exact specified measurements, with backstage staff having to pull down and rebuild the space on several occasions as the room was too small or too big by a couple of inches. As well as being extremely specific about the dimensions of the dressing room, Prince also insisted that the area be decorated in purple, with all furniture and fittings in the colour purple as well.

Despite having a limousine to transport him the short walk from the dressing room to the stage, Prince arrived at the performance 35 minutes late. However when he did arrive, he gave the crowd a great show, keeping the festival-goers entertained with a two-and-a-half hour set. The singer initially requested to do a 3 hour set, however the festival organisers managed to reach a compromise with the star of 30 minutes less than he initially wanted.

As well a chauffeur driven limo and custom made dressing room, Prince’s rider also said that backstage staff were not allowed to look the star in the eye.

Prince’s headline appearance was his first UK festival appearance ever, and so a major coup for Hop Farm Festival which took place in the South East of England.

£850 chauffeur driven limo ride paid for with stolen credit card

A man pleaded guilty to two counts of fraud while appearing at Warwick Crown Court this week after it was discovered that he’d used a stolen credit card to pay for a £850 chauffeur driven limo ride around Birmingham last September.

26-year-old George Awida, originally from Egypt, was found to have entered Britain illegally and was staying at a bed and breakfast in the West Midlands at the time of the incident. It later transpired that Awida had stolen the credit card details of Margaret Everall, who owned the B&B where the illegal immigrant was staying.

Limousine hire company, Royal Limos, alerted the police to Awida after he racked up a £850 limo trip on a credit card which he claimed belonged to his mother, and later tried to book a second limo hire ride, this time to Manchester.

The limo chauffeur also found a small amount of cannabis in the limousine after returning to the limo depot after chauffeuring Awida around the Birmingham city. The defendant also pleaded guilty to possession of a small amount of cannabis.

The limo hire firm reported how the defendant had told the chauffeur he was an American visiting the UK and that his father was an ambassador, adding that he felt nervous as he usually travelled with a bodyguard.

In court the 26-year-old Egyptian’s limo jaunt and stories of bodyguards were branded an “escapade of complete fantasy”.

Awida has sentenced to serve 70 days in prison, however the solicitor acting on behalf of the defendant pointed out that Awida had already spent over two months in custody on remand.

P Diddy treats teenage son to Maybach Limo

p-diddy-maybach

Rap star and businessman P Diddy has treated his son 17-year-old son Justin to yet another luxury vehicle, this time a collector’s limousine which is estimated to be worth a massive £240,000.

The music maker hit the headlines last year when he gifted Justin with a £186,000 Maybach for his birthday. The extravagant party and lavish gift was shown in its full glory on an episode of MTV’s Sweet 16.

Now his generous daddy has presented him with yet another over the top present, the limousine version of the luxury car he received for his 16th birthday. Diddy explained that the limo gift was to reward his teen son for turning himself around as he’s now an honours student achieving good grades at school, something he wasn’t doing before.

The 41-year-old described the Maybach limousine as a “collector’s car” and the sort of vehicle his son will be able to use on special occasions. Despite the opulent gift of a state of the art limo, Diddy said his son’s tastes are simple and that he’s not impressed by expensive items (in which case, maybe you should take the limo back Diddy?!)

As well as making millions from his music, P Diddy also has his own chain of restaurants, plus a successful fragrance and clothing line, which is just as well as the rap star is father to 6 children, all of which will probably be expecting luxury cars once they hit driving age!

Juliette-Lewis

Actress turned singer Juliette Lewis was hospitalized on Wednesday night after a hit and run driver ploughed into the back of her chauffeur driven limo in California.

The Oscar nominated actress was reported to have pain in her head, back and legs following the smash and was taken to hospital as a precaution. The star was released some hours later having sustained only minor injuries. She’s now said to be resting at home and “a bit banged up and sore” according to her spokesperson.

The chauffeur driven limousines was hit from behind after a speeding car jumped a red light, crashing straight into the singer’s limo. The driver sped off from the scene, the car was later found abandoned close to where the accident took place.

Limo hired by thief in US used as base from which to sell stolen goods

Police arrested man in the US who hired a limo and left stolen weapons onboard

A thief in Dover, USA, hired a chauffeur driven limo so he could drive around the neighbourhood selling his stolen goods.

Police were alerted by the limo driver after the man left the limousine with various stolen items onboard. The man, named by police as Jason Lowell Greenberg, was picked up by the authorities at Dover train station after the tip-off from the chauffer.

Eagle Limousines, who provided the chauffeur driven limo, say they received the booking earlier that night. The car was then sent to the requested location to pick up the customer, Greenberg, who proceeded to load stolen items including a TV, shotguns, and rifles into the limo.

Greenberg then asked the chauffeur to drive him around the area while he attempted to sell the items. He was then taken to the limo company’s base where a second chauffeur agreed to buy the TV. The other items were then moved to another limo, and Greenberg asked to be driven to the train station.

Once at the station, Greenberg left the limo with the items still onboard. It was at this point that the chauffeur called the police.

Greenberg was arrested and the investigation is ongoing. Early reports indicate that the items were probably taken during two burglaries which took place earlier that day.

The family run limo firm, Reprise Limos, was named Business of the Year in the business service category at the Exeter Area Chamber of Commerce recently.

This June will mark two years in business for Reprise Limos who say the company is going from strength to strength. Asked about their recipe for success, the mother and daughter partnership agree that their emphasis upon customer care and satisfaction is what makes them stand out from the crowd.

Reprise Limos offer a range of services including corporate travel, concierge and hospitality service. Ms Bunnell says she takes a hands-on approach to her business and ensures that she personally drives each new client so as to check that all of their needs have been met.

Limo Broker contradicts gloomy industry survey by reporting the most successful year to date

Limo Broker

In a recent survey conducted by top industry magazine and website, The Chauffeur.com, the results indicated that a hefty proportion of those involved in the limo hire business had noted a decline in custom during the difficult period of 2009, whereas agent brokers within the industry seemed unaffected by the slump. The survey sought to gain a snapshot of how the luxury transport business was fairing during the economic downturn, and how these businesses feel about the future of the industry.

Limo Broker

Limo Broker

Out of all the limo hire operators interviewed by The Chauffeur Magazine as part of the survey, 62% said they had noticed a marked slowdown in their business over the last 12 months. 50% of those who had reported a decrease in business said that they estimated that the number of their bookings had dropped by 25%, but 40% said they’d noted a 50% drop in bookings received through 2009.

However broker agents within the industry tell a very different story, with many reporting a surge in business as more and more people choose to shop around to find cheap deals for limo hire. One of the UK’s leading limo hire brokers, Limo Broker Ltd, seemed to buck the trend in 2009 and reported one of their busiest years ever. This marked contrast in fortunes between the independent limo operators and the brokers, could raise a question mark over the future of the limo hire firms as the broker agents gain more power within the business.

Limo Broker is also displaying encouraging signs for the New Year. The enquiry rate has been extremely high during January and the company have reported an increase in wedding car and wedding limo hire bookings for the coming summer season. Limo Broker’s January sale promotion which saw hire prices heavily reduced has also helped boost bookings.

Other results from The Chauffeur website survey revealed that limo hire operators are looking towards the future with optimism as 46% of those questioned saying that they were planning to invest in a new vehicle for the fleet within the next year.
