Luxury car and limo hire company facing investigation over insurance

A luxury car and limo rental firm, co owned by Manchester City footballer, Vincent Kompany, is being put under the spotlight by Greater Manchester Police after they found a number of issues with the vehicles and the drivers after carrying out a spot check on five vehicles back in May.

The Manchester city skipper owns 300 out of the 900 shares of Elite Limousines VIP Protection Services which regularly chauffeurs a high volume of players and officials from the football club. The 600 other shares are split equally between Mohammed Fayaz Hussain and Alyas Hussain making all three, including Kompany, equal partners in the firm.

Elite Limousines were in the process of chauffeuring a number of players and officials to City’s ground back in May when the Great Manchester police stopped the vehicle to carry out routine checks.

The authorities found a number of issues and now co-owner of the company, Mohammed Fayaz Hussain is due in Manchester Magistrates Court later this month standing accused of three counts of employing an unlicensed driver, five charges of using a motor vehicle without third party insurance, five counts of using a private hire vehicle without correctly displayed plate or tax disc information and one count of withholding information in order to obtain motor insurance.

PM’s limo dented while on official visit in Manchester

The Prime Minister’s chauffeur driven limousine came off a little worse for wear after an official visit to Salford in the wake of last week’s riots.

The Jaguar XJ limo which was being driven by the Prime Minister, David Cameron’s, official chauffeur was being manoeuvred into position in order to whisk the PM off after his visit to a Lidl store which had been the target of ferocious attacks by rioters last week.

However the chauffeur seemed to misjudge the height of a nearby kerb, and the passenger side of the limo skimmed the top of the pavement as the driver attempted to swing the luxury car into position for the PM.

A nearby Conservative official tried to warn the driver, waving his arms and shouting in a desperate attempt to stop the limo before it came into impact with the kerb, but it was too late, the £200,000 car bumped the pavement leaving a dent and long scrape along the paintwork on the passenger side of the limousine.

Luckily, the Prime Minister seemed oblivious to the incident as he hopped in the waiting car and was driven away swiftly by the embarrassed driver.

The top of the range Jaguar XJ which is David Cameron’s official car is believed to be worth £200,000 as it features high levels of security including bullet and bomb proof technology to ensure the safety of the PM during official visits.

£850 chauffeur driven limo ride paid for with stolen credit card

A man pleaded guilty to two counts of fraud while appearing at Warwick Crown Court this week after it was discovered that he’d used a stolen credit card to pay for a £850 chauffeur driven limo ride around Birmingham last September.

26-year-old George Awida, originally from Egypt, was found to have entered Britain illegally and was staying at a bed and breakfast in the West Midlands at the time of the incident. It later transpired that Awida had stolen the credit card details of Margaret Everall, who owned the B&B where the illegal immigrant was staying.

Limousine hire company, Royal Limos, alerted the police to Awida after he racked up a £850 limo trip on a credit card which he claimed belonged to his mother, and later tried to book a second limo hire ride, this time to Manchester.

The limo chauffeur also found a small amount of cannabis in the limousine after returning to the limo depot after chauffeuring Awida around the Birmingham city. The defendant also pleaded guilty to possession of a small amount of cannabis.

The limo hire firm reported how the defendant had told the chauffeur he was an American visiting the UK and that his father was an ambassador, adding that he felt nervous as he usually travelled with a bodyguard.

In court the 26-year-old Egyptian’s limo jaunt and stories of bodyguards were branded an “escapade of complete fantasy”.

Awida has sentenced to serve 70 days in prison, however the solicitor acting on behalf of the defendant pointed out that Awida had already spent over two months in custody on remand.

Hummer limo operator receives apology from the police for wrongly impounding his vehicle

Manchester based limo hire operator, Earls Limousines, have received a full written apology from the Greater Manchester Police after their hummer limo was wrongly impounded before Christmas.

Earlier this month we reported how the 18-seater hummerzine H2 limo, which had a full COIF certificate, had been seized by police after officers questioned the driver’s licence.

The limousine was investigated as part of an operation to crackdown on illegal limo providers. VOSA officials had passed the hummer limo off as legal at the Belle Vue Stadium, but the officers didn’t believe that the chauffeur’s licence covered him to drive the limo for hire and reward, and they subsequently impounded the vehicle.

The owner of Earls Limousines stepped in to try and resolve matters. He explained that the chauffeur’s D category licence did allow him to drive the limo. But this was not taken onboard.

Earls Limousines were then left without one of their most popular vehicles during the busy run-up to Christmas, leaving the company struggling to fulfil reservation made for the limo.

In the letter received this week, the police apologise for wrongly impounding the hummer limo. They also state that the impounding fee of £190 will be refunded to the company. The limo provider is also likely to receive a possible £1,000 in compensation for loss of business during the period whilst the limo was impounded.

A Manchester based limo hire company was left baffled after police impounded one of its most prized vehicles after claiming that the chauffeur’s licence did not cover him to drive the limo.

The 18 seater hummerzine H2 limo, which holds a full COIF certificate, was taken in by the police after they inspected the driver’s licence. The operation was part of a crackdown in the run up to Christmas to uncover rogue limo providers. VOSA officials passed the hummer limo as safe and legal, but traffic officers were not satisfied with the drivers licence and believed he was not eligible to drive the vehicle.

The owner of the limo company, Jason Earl, explained the events which lead up to the limo being impounded: “The driver has a full D Category on his license to drive any PCV vehicle. The Police said this did not cover this type of vehicle as it was a small PCV, requiring a D1 Category on his license. I spoke to the officer and explained he was wrong, but he would not accept this and impounded the vehicle based on this.”

The police consulted the DVLA after impounding the limo and were told that the D Category licence did indeed cover a PCV vehicle, and the limo was duly released back to the company.

However the decision to impound the hummer limousine cost the hire company dearly as they were unable to fulfill booking made for the limo at one of the busiest times of the year.

Jason Earl is now appealing to the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police against the action taken to impound the limo, and is also seeking to recover costs of £1,500.

Liam Gallagher: I was born to be in Oasis

Oasis band songwriter Noel Gallagher announced he’ll never play with brother and (apparently former) bandmate Liam Gallagher again after a fight reportedly led to the cancellation of their tour – but their mum predicted the band breakup will be temporary.

Oasis’s album, Dig Out Your Soul, has sold over 1.6 million copies worldwide since its release last October.

Since forming in 1991, the band has sold more than 50 million records and had eight number one singles in Britain.

Prior to the brothers having their differences, Liam spoke to Channelnewsasia.com in confidence:

“Oasis is my thing. I was born to be in Oasis. I was born to make Oasis the best. That’s what my goal is,” he told .

“I love the music. I love playing it. I love going around the world, seeing the fans and stuff. I can’t wait to get back there.”

Since the on-going personal issues between the two brothers, opinions have changed and the Gallagher brothers are not on speaking terms.

The rock band which was formed in Manchester in 1991, originally known as The Rain split this Friday amid reports that Liam smashed a guitar backstage and told Noel: “You’re no brother of mine.” Their fight is said to have become so violent that an ambulance was called.
