Sick 5-year-old taken to hospital in the Prime Minister’s personal limo

5-year-old Savannah Nicholls was had been invited to number 10 Downing Street to meet the Prime Minister, David Cameron, when the sick youngster took a turn for the worse during the visit and had to be rushed to hospital in the PM’s personal limo.

Savannah was accompanied by her mother Lisa during the visit which saw a number of poorly children meet David Cameron at number 10 as part of a special party organised by the children’s charity Together for Short Lives. As well as meeting the Prime Minister briefly before she was taken ill, Savannah also got to meet Mr Tumble from the CBeebies show, Something Special.

The 5-year-old from Penzance in Cornwall has been suffering from Leukaemia, Cerebral Palsy and epilepsy since birth, however the youngster was overcoming a chest infection at the time of her visit to number 10 which flared up during the party.

Savannah’s mother, Lisa, was full of praise for Cameron’s aides who quickly ushered the young girl and her family into a side room, which turned out to be the famous Cabinet Room, while they arranged for the PM’s chauffeured limo to collect the 5-year-old and take her to hospital.

After her hospital dash in Cameron’s personal limo, Savannah is now back in Cornwall recovering in hospital, although her family hope she’ll be allowed home in the coming days.

JLS star Oritse Williams revealed his romantic side in a recent radio interview in which he described saving up for months in order to treat a special lady to a chauffeur driven limousine rise.

Government department with the largest limo fleet revealed

A national tabloid newspaper has this week revealed the government department with the biggest bill for chauffeur driven limousine, and also the largest fleet, during Labour’s final year in government.

The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, headed up by Peter Mandelson, has been revealed as the biggest spender in the chauffeur driven limo stakes. The spending figures were made public this week and showed that Mandelson’s department ran up a bill of £700,000 for chauffeur driven cars during Labour’s last year in power.

The figures relate to the period between April 2009 and March 2010 and showed that the BIS department was the biggest spending department within the labour government at the time. The Home Office was runner up, coming in with a bill of £500,000 for the cost of chauffeur driven transport for ministers and officials, £200,000 less than Mandelson’s department’s bill.

As well as running up the biggest bill for chauffeur driven transport, the BIS department also boasted the largest fleet of vehicles, with 7 top quality cars at their disposal.

The cost of the cars and drivers used by government ministers and officials while on business is picked up by the taxpayer. In total, this service cost the taxpayer £6.7 million during this period, according to the figures released this week.

VOSA reveals the shocking results of its limo crackdown in London

The Vehicle Operator and Services Agency has revealed the worrying results of its recent crackdown operation whereby they inspected limos attending Wembley Stadium in London.

VOSA found that more than half of the limousines they stopped and inspected earlier this month were in breach of driving regulations, or had sustained some kind of mechanical fault.

On the first night of the one-the-spot checks, just 1 out of the 4 limos which were stopped passed the inspection. The following day the results weren’t any better with 6 out of 13 limousines getting the green light from VOSA inspectors.

Common issues found by VOSA included mechanical problems which resulted in several limos being issued with a Delayed Roadworthiness Prohibition. This allows the driver or keeper of the limo a set amount of time to fix the fault.

A failure to adhere to guidelines on driver’s hours was another common problem which resulted in many of the limos failing their inspections. A number of Drivers Hours 24hrs Rest Prohibition notices were handed out during the crackdown.

VOSA say they have stepped up their vehicle inspections in reaction to the concern within the industry as regard to limo companies operating on the roads who are not adhering to driving regulations. A series of similar spot-checks were carried out up and down the country during this year’s prom season, which is a peak time for limo hire.
