Limo hired to collect take-away for birthday treat

Surprise limo ride to pick up a curry for Devonshire man's 40th birthday bash

As a special treat to celebrate her husband’s 40th birthday, Ali Shaw from Devon decided to hire a stretch limousine for her other half Joel. Nothing unusual there you may think, until you hear where they went on their limo outing…

Birthday boy Joel, originally from Australia, is devoted to the curries served at an Indian take-away hear Barnstaple, the Taj Mahal in Allhalland Street. The Aussie, who has sampled curries from around the world, believes the dishes served up at the Devonshire Indian are the best he’s ever tasted.

Joel and his wife were regular customers at the Taj Mahal when they lived nearby, but after moving home, collecting a curry from their favourite restaurant meant an 80-mile round trip.

As a birthday surprise, Ali hired a limo to pick Joel and a group of friends up from their home and chauffeur them to the take-away to collect their much-loved curry.

The owner of the curry house was bowled over by the lengths the birthday group had gone to in order to collect one of his curries. Azhar Ahmed decided to donate the money from the order, £80, to the North Devon Hospice as he said he was grateful for the “respect” the group had shown for his cooking.

100-year-old Daisy treated to luxury limo ride to celebrate milestone birthday

Fun-loving pensioner Daisy Danks from Devon was treated to a luxury limo ride to celebrate reaching her 100th birthday.

Daisy’s family surprised the birthday girl with the stretch limo. The chauffeur driven limousine rolled up to Daisy’s Residential home in Paignton to whisk her and a bunch of her pals off for a ride around the town.

Torquay based limousine operator, Squires Limo Hire, decorated the vehicle with birthday banners and balloons especially for the occasion. However the high-spirited group of OAP’s decided to start a balloon fight whilst onboard. Chauffeur Martin had never seen anything quite like it, he said: “They were sat in the back and all decided to have a balloon fight. It was quite hilarious.”

At 100 years of age, Daisy was the oldest person to have ever been chauffeured in white stretch limo, and the experience was also a first for Daisy as she’d never travelled in a limousine before. On the ride back to the home, the gang were served cakes and non-alcoholic drinks to top off their fun-filled afternoon.

Back at the Residential home, the celebrating showed no signs of stopping as the staff organised a birthday tea for Daisy and all of the other residents. With a little help from her friends, Daisy certainly succeeded in celebrating her 100th birthday in real style.
