Jail for US hummer limo thief

22-year-old man in police custody after taking a hummer limo from his company's depot

A limo hire company employee has been remanded in custody after attempting to steal a hummer limousine from the firm he worked for.

The 22-year-old thief had only recently secured employment as an accountant at Silver Image Limousines in Dallas, US, when he tried to make away with one of the operator’s most expensive limos.

The thief has now been formally identified by police as Daniel Rodriguez. He was charged with Unauthorised Use of a Motor Vehicle after being stopped by the authorities.

The owner of Silver Image Limousines explained how the theft of the limo was detected. The company has the quick-thinking actions of a member of the public to thank who alerted the police after seeing the hummer limo being driven in an erratic manner.

After witnessing the hummer limo making a number of illegal manoeuvres while travelling along a motorway, the police followed the car, pulling it over in Dallas, and arresting the driver on suspicion of Unauthorised Use of a Motor Vehicle. Daniel Rodriguez has subsequently been charged and is now being held in police custody.

Two passengers travelling onboard the hummer limousine at the time of the theft, Jorge Rodriguez, and Anabel Rodriguez were also arrested on outstanding traffic warrants.

Two people were reported to have been injured last week following a shoot out between two rival gangs In Los Angeles.

A group of known gang members were said to have hired a hummer limo to travel to Dockweiler State Beach to celebrate what the police called, “Hood Day” which is the anniversary of the founding of the gang.

However the day trip turned ugly when a rival gang turned up to spoil the party. Punches were thrown and a number of shots were fired, with approximately half a dozen bullets hitting the hummer limo.

The limo chauffeur escaped on foot, while a gang member got behind the wheel and the limousine sped off, hitting one man, and dragging him in the process. His condition is said to be critical. Another man was shot in the chest during the shoot out but he is said to be in a stable condition.

The hummer limo had been hired to transport 8 gang member and several female companions to the beach for the day.

Police pursued the limousine and the vehicle was pulled over. The driver of the limo was detained and several passengers were also arrested.

A Canadian limo company has unveiled its latest creation. The Knight XV towers over even the biggest of hummer limos and features ballistic tested steel exterior and a deluxe entertainment system onboard.

Manchester based limo hire operator, Earls Limousines, have received a full written apology from the Greater Manchester Police after their hummer limo was wrongly impounded before Christmas.

Earlier this month we reported how the 18-seater hummerzine H2 limo, which had a full COIF certificate, had been seized by police after officers questioned the driver’s licence.

The limousine was investigated as part of an operation to crackdown on illegal limo providers. VOSA officials had passed the hummer limo off as legal at the Belle Vue Stadium, but the officers didn’t believe that the chauffeur’s licence covered him to drive the limo for hire and reward, and they subsequently impounded the vehicle.

The owner of Earls Limousines stepped in to try and resolve matters. He explained that the chauffeur’s D category licence did allow him to drive the limo. But this was not taken onboard.

Earls Limousines were then left without one of their most popular vehicles during the busy run-up to Christmas, leaving the company struggling to fulfil reservation made for the limo.

In the letter received this week, the police apologise for wrongly impounding the hummer limo. They also state that the impounding fee of £190 will be refunded to the company. The limo provider is also likely to receive a possible £1,000 in compensation for loss of business during the period whilst the limo was impounded.

A hummer limousine carrying 12 football fans became trapped in snow and ice whilst travelling through the Lake District on New Year’s Day. The Langdole and Amberside Mountain Rescue crew were scrambled and succeeded in getting the whole group to safety within an hour and a half.

A satellite navigation system could be to blame for leading the driver of the limousine onto the treacherous road. The limo got stuck on the summit of Kirkstone Pass which is the Lake District’s highest pass that is open to motor vehicles. Despite the poor driving conditions on the steep road, the satellite navigation system failed to warn the driver to the heavy snow and ice on the road up ahead which it had directed the driver to follow.

It has been reported that the group onboard the huge limo had been travelling to watch a Barrow AFC match but became stuck on the road at approximately 10pm on New Year’s Day.

All limo passengers and the driver were evacuated from the area safely and no injuries were reported.

This was just one of a spate of rescue operations which have taken place on the Kirkstone Pass in recent days since the heavy snow fall and cold weather began. The same Mountain Rescue crew have come to the aid of a number of walkers over the New Year period, who have suffered falls on the ice.

A Manchester based limo hire company was left baffled after police impounded one of its most prized vehicles after claiming that the chauffeur’s licence did not cover him to drive the limo.

The 18 seater hummerzine H2 limo, which holds a full COIF certificate, was taken in by the police after they inspected the driver’s licence. The operation was part of a crackdown in the run up to Christmas to uncover rogue limo providers. VOSA officials passed the hummer limo as safe and legal, but traffic officers were not satisfied with the drivers licence and believed he was not eligible to drive the vehicle.

The owner of the limo company, Jason Earl, explained the events which lead up to the limo being impounded: “The driver has a full D Category on his license to drive any PCV vehicle. The Police said this did not cover this type of vehicle as it was a small PCV, requiring a D1 Category on his license. I spoke to the officer and explained he was wrong, but he would not accept this and impounded the vehicle based on this.”

The police consulted the DVLA after impounding the limo and were told that the D Category licence did indeed cover a PCV vehicle, and the limo was duly released back to the company.

However the decision to impound the hummer limousine cost the hire company dearly as they were unable to fulfill booking made for the limo at one of the busiest times of the year.

Jason Earl is now appealing to the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police against the action taken to impound the limo, and is also seeking to recover costs of £1,500.
