Closet Extravaganza donates prom dresses to girls in the US

prom-1

As any parent of a teen knows all too well, the cost of attending a school prom can be extremely costly, especially for those living on low incomes. One school nurse working in Columbus in the US decided to launch a scheme to donate prom dresses to ensure no pupil was left out of the fun of the school prom.

Known as the Closet Extravaganza, the scheme was launched 6 years and is held every other year. The Extravaganza is growing in popularity year on year with 60 girls receiving prom dresses through the generous donations the first year, and 180 attending the following Closet extravaganza picking their prom outfit from the 400 dresses which had been donated.

As well as offering the all-important prom dress to youngsters in the Columbus area, the Closet Extravaganza also provides accessories such as shoes, jewellery, and handbags to complete the prom look perfectly.

Jean Kamrath, the school nurse at Columbus High School, said she was inspired to launch the scheme due to the high levels of poverty in the area, and she wanted to ensure that no teen was unable to attend their prom because of the expense involved.

This year’s Closet Extravaganza is due to take place early next month, all donations are welcome.

Another important school prom accessory is limo hire, luckily Limo 4 Proms are offering cheap rates across a wide range of chauffeur driven prom limos. Check out Limos 4 Proms now and receive a free quote for your school prom date.

Bradford limousine hire company comes to the rescue of prom girls

A group of year 11 school girls from Bradford almost had their prom night ruined after the limousine they had booked for their big occasion failed to show.

After the father of one of the prom-goers called the company to ask what had happened to the chauffeur driven limo, he was told that the vehicle had broken down and wouldn’t be able to take the girls to the prom as arranged. No replacement limo was offered.

Desperate for a ride to the prom, the girls flagged down a passing limo and asked if they could help them out. The chauffeur agreed to shuffle his jobs around in order to save the day for the young prom goers.

Bradford based limousine hire company, Oasis Limos, explained that they had three different limos in the area that night to cope with the demand due to the school prom. The firm was able to re-arrange its three limousines to pick up the group of girls and take them on a 20 minute spin before dropping them off at the prom at Knaresborough Cricket Club.

The company which failed to provide the booked limo refused later in the week to return the girl’s deposit as they had told to the press about the incident.

It’s been reported that the first limo company also let down a number of other prom-goers on the same night by failing to provide the luxury transportation they had booked for their special occasion. The operator says it apologises to its customers for the inconvenience, but that the situation was unavoidable as the limousine which had been booked for the prom jobs had been involved in an accident prior to the prom date.

More limo hire operators face spot checks at school prom dates

Road side checks on limos leaving school proms in Stafford helping to clamp down on Illegal operators

Another two limo hire companies are facing investigation by licensing officials after failing to provide adequate documentation following a spot check on limousines leaving a school prom in Stafford earlier this month.

A series of roadside checks were carried out on chauffeur driven limousines after they had dropped off their passengers at a year 11 school prom which was being held at The Moat House Hotel in Acton Trussell. A number of similar sting operations have been carried out up and down the country during the peak prom season.

One of the licensing officers involved in the South Staffordshire roadside checks explained that transport officials are targeting limousines attending prom events as it allows “a unique opportunity to vet a large number of limo companies in one place in a relatively short space of time.”

The licensing officials are checking that each of the limousines and chauffeurs has the correct licence documents and also appropriate insurance as they aim to clamp down on the number of illegal limo operators working in the UK.

Two limos were singled out for further investigation after failing to provide adequate licensing or insurance documentation. Both companies are now required to deliver the requested paperwork to the authorities or face prosecution.

The Staffordshire wide crackdown on illegal limo operators during the school prom season has been a success, according to one of the officers leading the operation, who says knowledge that the roadside checks were taking place has been a strong deterrent in keeping rouge limo providers off the road.

School proms are big business for limo hire companies

School prom season is one of the busiest times for the year for limo providers

The rise in popularity of school proms in the UK is a much charted phenomenon. Once just an American rite of passage seen in teen films, now the prom is a mainstay of British culture.

The school prom has risen to prominence in the UK over the last four to five years and it’s not just the parents and the school pupils who have noticed, related suppliers like limo hire companies, suit hire suppliers and photographers have also been quick to catch onto this craze.

A school in Leeds described in a recent news report being inundated with requests from suppliers of limo hire, photography, and prom dress suppliers in the run up to the prom season. The occasion means big business for these industries and they are all vying to attract the attention of the teenage prom-goers.

Many parents view the prom phenomenon as a financially draining extravagance with some girls reporting to spend £300 on a prom dress alone. However others see it as a fitting celebration for youngsters to celebrate then end of a busy school term, and for some, the end of their school life.

Hummer limo destroyed in Massachusetts fire

A hummer limo was been destroyed during a fire in the US

A hummer limo has been completely destroyed during a fire which broke out on Tuesday afternoon this week in Westport, Massachusetts. The garage the hummer limo had been parked inside, was also damaged during the blaze.

The 2006 luxury hummer limousine was consumed by flames when the fire crew arrived at approximately 2:15pm. The garage was also engulfed in smoke. However the fire fighters were quick to act and succeeded in getting the blaze under control within just 30 minutes. They also prevented the fire from spreading to the rest of the building, a two storey house.

One person, as yet unidentified, was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. A total of 3 fire engines and one ladder truck were called to tackle the blaze.

The limo is reportedly owned by Salon Salon Limousine Services of Fall River. The hummer was often used for prom night celebrations, weddings, and birthday parties.

Later the Fire Investigation Unit were called to try and determine the cause of the fire. The unit found that the limo had been parked inside the garage when the blaze began, but had been driven out before the fire crew arrived. The case is still being investigated in order to discover how the fire began.
