Beyonce confirms Glastonbury appearance

Beyonc--accepts-Grammy

Beyonce has confirmed that she will be appearing at this year’s Glastonbury, closing the festival with a 90-minute set on the Sunday night.

The former Destiny’s Child singer will perform on the famous pyramid stage as she plays out the 2011 festival on June 26th.

In an official statement issued through Beyonce’s record label, the singer says she “cannot wait” to play at the “biggest festival in the world.”

This year’s event is already completely sold out, possibly in reaction to the fact that there will be no festival in 2012 because of the Olympic Games which are being held in London. As is customary with the organisers of Glasto, the complete line-up is yet to be announced, with Beyonce being the only big name to confirm her place on this year’s bill.

However Irish superstars U2 are expected to put in a performance after the band were forced to pull out of a scheduled headline appearance last year after Bono had to undergo emergency surgery on his back.

The Single Ladies singer’s appearance at Glastonbury follows her husband, Jay-Z’s, headline performance at the event in 2008. Beyonce also tagged along to see her husband take to the stage at Glasto and silence his critics with a storming performance.

Jay-Z’s appearance at the festival divided opinion at the time as Glastonbury traditionally has its roots in rock and alternative music, so the inclusion of a hip hop star in the line-up did raise a few eyebrows.

Last year saw Beyonce finish her mammoth I Am…World Tour which played to over 1.1 million music fans.

Tom Jones moves back to the U.K

There’ll be an almighty welcome in the hillside awaiting Welsh Favourite Tom Jones as he announced today he is to return back to the U.K after spending the last 35 years in L.A. Jones originally made the move to the U.S when his singing career took off spectacularly in the early 1970’s and set up home in a luxury mansion in Bel-Air, the former home of Dean Martin.

The news follows the announcement by Tom’s ex-neighbour and friend, Robbie Williams, who revealed he is also returning to live in Britain permanently. Although Robbie’s move probably has little bearing on the Welsh crooner’s decisions as he explained the idea has been on his mind for some time. “My wife Linda’s been getting homesick lately and we have been talking it over for a while.”  He went on to say “Britain has always been home. I love coming here and miss it more and more when I go back to LA. It’s the people and humour you can’t get anywhere else.” It’s believed Tom and his family will move to London to begin with, but have long term plans for a move to the country.

The timing of the move couldn’t be better as Tom recently announced a full U.K and European tour scheduled for later this year. The Welsh legend has chosen his homeland of Wales as the starting point for the U.K leg of the mammoth tour which begins on October 9th at Cardiff International Arena. If the success of Tom’s blistering set at Glastonbury this year is anything to go by, the fans are in for a scintillating show.

Tom will be belting out a mixture of the classics which helped make his name such as Delilah and It’s not unusual as well as hits from his new album released last year, 24 Hours.

The appeal of Tom Jones seems to transcend age with fans old and young flocking to see the 69 year old singer. Jones even revealed in an interview on The One Show this week that U.S band The Killers have invited him into the studio to record with them; the fact that even the coolest of bands wish to be associated with the Welsh warbler is testament to his during popularity and unmistakable talent.

Tickets for the Cardiff gig were in such high demand that not one, but two extra dates had to be added. The next few months will be a real endurance test for Jones as he’s also booked to play 13 dates at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas during the summer as well as a raft of U.S and European dates.
