Controversial comedian Russell Brand was the butt of the joke yesterday as he was on was pushed underwater by a random stranger. The incident happened whilst Brand was filming a scene in London’s Trafalgar Square for his forthcoming movie Get Him To The Greek, the sequel to his Hollywood debut movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

The offending passer-by, whose identity was partly concealed by a red base ball cap, managed to run the gauntlet through the film’s security team to get to the star. After giving the notorious lady’s man a good dunking, the stranger attempted to flee the scene but was pounced on by security.

One onlooker who witnessed the attack said “Brand was completely underwater. I expect he’ll have some bruises.” However the man himself seemed unfazed by the experience. Writing on his Twitter page later that evening Brand declared “I am refreshed. It’s not the first time I’ve frolicked in that wretched fluid. X”

The stranger was held by police but has since been released as the comedian decided to not press charges; it seems Brand isn’t a man to hold a grudge.

After taking a 20 minute break from filming to dry off from his unexpected dip, resilient Russell remerged to a round of applause. He continued filming the scene in which is character is dancing drunkenly along the edge of the fountain whilst surrounded by rowdy West Ham supporters.
