Following the high profile resignation of John O’Donoghue this week, Car Hire Comparison website BestCarHire.co.uk have decided to make the ex-speaker an offer which could teach him a thing or two.
Mr O’Donoghue was forced to resign from his position as Speaker of Irish Parliament or, Ceann Comhairle in formal terms, after his expense claims were made public and his extravagant use of taxpayer’s money was uncovered. As well as forking out almost $220 in tips alone for a limo driver whilst visiting the US he also racked up a hefty bill of €21,000 in car hire costs during overseas trips in 2006 and 2007.
In light of Mr O’Donoghue’s misguided and costly method of securing car hire, the price comparison site thought it would benefit the recently-unemployed speaker to take up a position within the pricing department of their company, and hopefully, he won’t make the mistake of paying over the odds for car hire again.
A spokesperson for the car hire comparison company said: “While he’s in between jobs, we’d like to offer Mr O’Donoghue a role in our pricing department where he can see how cheap car hire can be – it would be a modest salary, but we do offer generous expense allowances and staff discounts on car hire.”
Given the current economic climate and the rising unemployment figures, Mr O’Donoghue may have to think twice before he turns his nose up as this job offer.
