Disney Prom movie prepares for its UK cinema release

The new Disney movie based on all things prom has already proved a big hit in the US and is about to thrill school leavers this side of the Atlantic as it prepares for its release in UK cinemas on June 3rd.

Prom will be released in the UK just as the school prom season starts to take off in Britain with school leavers up and down the country frantically preparing for the ultimate end of year party. To get into the prom spirit, make sure you book your ticket to see this fun loving movie when it hits the UK cinemas this Friday.

The story in Disney’s Prom follows a group of different couples and the trials and tribulations they endure in the run-up to the all-important prom night. From finding the perfect prom dress, to asking that guy or girl to be your date at the prom, to tracking down the best limousine to get you noticed on the night, Disney’s Prom deals with all the prom related dilemmas faced by school leavers across the globe.   

Starring Aimee Teegarden as the principal character of Nova Prescott, and with an uplifting soundtrack provided by US boy band All Star Weekend and Travie McCoy’s cover of the Supergrass hit, Alright, the new Disney movie looks set to become the teen hit of the summer.

Singer turned actress Jessica Simpson has unveiled her own signature line in prom dresses in America, just in time for the peak school prom season.

The collection of prom gowns have been designed especially for the popular occasion wear retailer, David’s Bridal. The 30-year-old performer says her collection has been inspired by the designer gowns she’s worn to red carpet events herself.

As well as having a carved out a successful career as a singer and actress, Jessica Simpson has also established a successful business venture with her own clothing and accessories line which is estimated to be worth $1 billion.

So when it comes to fashion, Jessica knows a thing or two. The newly engaged star says her line of prom dresses has been designed to fit and flatter a variety of body shapes helping prom-goers achieve red carpet style for their special prom date.

The dresses from the exclusive prom collection are available in a variety of colours including some vibrant shades such as turquoise and royal blue to ensure the girls stand out from the crowd. Closet Extravaganza donates prom dresses to girls in the US

As any parent of a teen knows all too well, the cost of attending a school prom can be extremely costly, especially for those living on low incomes. One school nurse working in Columbus in the US decided to launch a scheme to donate prom dresses to ensure no pupil was left out of the fun of the school prom.

Known as the Closet Extravaganza, the scheme was launched 6 years and is held every other year. The Extravaganza is growing in popularity year on year with 60 girls receiving prom dresses through the generous donations the first year, and 180 attending the following Closet extravaganza picking their prom outfit from the 400 dresses which had been donated.

As well as offering the all-important prom dress to youngsters in the Columbus area, the Closet Extravaganza also provides accessories such as shoes, jewellery, and handbags to complete the prom look perfectly.

Jean Kamrath, the school nurse at Columbus High School, said she was inspired to launch the scheme due to the high levels of poverty in the area, and she wanted to ensure that no teen was unable to attend their prom because of the expense involved.

This year’s Closet Extravaganza is due to take place early next month, all donations are welcome.

Country pop singer Taylor Swift has revealed the people she’d invite to her ultimate school prom.

With prom season fast approaching, school-leavers up and down the country are turning their thoughts to prom dresses and limo hire for the big event. Although the 21-year-old singer’s school prom may be behind her, that didn’t stop Taylor Swift airing her opinion on the best prom guests during a recent interview.

Pop singer Justin Timberlake and also the ultra cool P Diddy would also make it onto the guest list for Taylor Swift’s school prom as they are both very “nice” according to the pop starlet.

Stretch limos on display at Swindon school prom show

Swindon’s recent school prom show held earlier this month by Commonweal School in The Mall featured everything a young prom-goer could possibly need to ensure they are fully equipped for their leaver’s ball.

The school prom show was organised by the Parent Teacher association and featured a catwalk show with year 11 students modelling the latest prom dress fashions. A luxury stretch limousine was also on display at the event where visitors had a chance to get up close to the top of the range ride. Over 70 people including school pupils, mums and dads and grandparents all turned out for the event. As well as the catwalk show, there was also a hair demonstration by Cosmo Colours giving future prom-goers a run-down of the latest hairstyles and tips for teaming hair with prom outfits.

A raft of other stalls were also set up for the school prom show featuring everything from jewellery to make-up, suit hire to limo hire, prom dresses to shoes.

8 limos en route to school prom in Derbyshire fail spot checks

Officials in the UK are carrying out roadside checks on limos during the school prom season

A total of eight limousines travelling to a school prom in Derbyshire last week failed the spot checks which were carried out in conjunction with the local council and the Vehicle Operator Standards Agency (VOSA).

The South Derbyshire council also targeted another school prom in the local area just two weeks previously in a bid to crack down on unsafe limos travelling to proms, and potentially putting young prom-goers at risk.

A number of vehicle problems were uncovered by the investigation. Issues with a lack of power steering and seat belts, and also problems relating to tyres were discovered by the officials carrying out the checks.

The eight prom limos which failed the spot checks have been handed prohibition notices which ban them from operating until they can prove that the issues which were uncovered have been resolved and that the limousine is now roadworthy.

With the school prom season starting to get underway, limo operators are being warned to expect these kinds of spot checks up and down the country as officials strive to stamp out illegal limo providers throughout the UK.
