Elvis Presley limo to go under the hammer in California

A limousine previously owned by the “King of Rock ’n Roll” himself, Elvis Presley, is due to be sold at auction in California next month.

While some vehicles which have come up for auction with claims to have been owned by the legendary singer have only be able to offer dubious links to the star, with the black 1955 Cadillac, there’s no doubt over the authenticity of this vehicle and its connection to the King.

As well as a number of original documents linking the limo to Elvis, including the paperwork sold with the car stating the singer as the owner, the Blue Suede Shoes singer was also photographed next to the car on many occasions and the Cadillac spent many years on display at an Elvis museum in Las Vegas.

The 1955 Cadillac series 75 Fleetwood limo was bought by Elvis in 1956 and the singer even had to have his father co-sign the vehicle documents when he purchased the limousine. Originally a light blue colour, the legendary singer had the limo painted black immediately after taking ownership of the Cadillac.

Elvis and his band used the limo to travel between gigs in the South of the USA, often strapping their instruments to the roof and driving through the night so they could reach the next town for their performance the following day.

The limo was sold at auction in 2007 and beat its expected selling price of between $100,000-$150,000 by selling for $275,000. Despite selling for such a large amount last time, the experts have placed a guide price of between $100,000 – $150,000 on the limo for the upcoming auction on November 12th at Bonhams Classic in California.

A 40-year-old woman stole a black limousine from the valet area of a Las Vegas hotel to get the attention of the Metro Police, it has been alleged.

The flame haired woman reportedly hopped inside the black limousine as it was parked in the valet spot with its keys in the ignition outside of the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas. The female, named as Monica Denicali, then proceeded to drive off in the limo taking it for a joyride around the Vegas highways.

The police tracked the stolen limo down and pursued the vehicle with their sirens blaring in an attempt to get the woman to pull over. However instead of giving herself in during the police pursuit, Ms Denicali proceeded to throw herself from the moving limo and attempted to make a getaway from the police on foot.

However the woman’s attempt at fleeing the scene of the crime was unsuccessful as she was quickly captured by the authorities and arrested in connection with grand larceny auto.

On the arrest report, one of the reasons stated for the theft of the limo by the defendant was that she did it because she’d been “harassed by the Metro for years”. However upon appearing in court, the authorities discovered that Ms Denicali had violated her prohibition and would be sent back to prison.

The black limo has been returned to its rightful owner undamaged.

Thousands of people have descended upon the city of Beijing today to celebrate the 60th anniversary of communism in China. The imposing parade which features a huge range of military equipment including tanks and missiles, plus scores of soldiers and military personnel will pass through the capital city’s Tinanmen Square today. It is the exact spot where 60 years previously, Mao Zedong declared China a Communist state.

Hu Jintao, China’s current President, will be chauffeured to the event in a specially designed 5.8 metre stretch limousine. The exquisite vehicle has been custom made for the President for the 60th anniversary celebration.

The event has taken months to prepare. The 3 hour parade is of epic proportion and features 200,000 individuals ranging from soldiers to school children and citizens. However not everyone is welcome, attendance is by ticket only. Many local residents are not allowed to leave their houses whilst the parade is taking place, they must instead watch proceedings via the television.

Today’s march is expected to be even bigger than the celebration which took place on the 50th anniversary a decade ago. China is taking the opportunity to show off its military power; it is expected to be the largest display involving the military ever seen. 53 units of impeccably drilled soldiers will march through the city along with row upon row of machinery and weaponry.

Rehearsals for the parade began back in December. In recent months parts of Beijing have been cordoned off whilst final preparations and dress rehearsals are carried out in the streets of the city. Today’s parade is said to rival the spectacle put on for the opening of the Beijing Olympics last year.

Rolls Royce limos for Jackson's funeral

Last week Michael Jackson’s body was finally laid to rest in a private ceremony at Glendale’s Forest Lawn Memorial Park just outside of Los Angeles. The singer’s family were driven to the sombre event in a fleet of chauffeur driven Rolls Royce Phantom limos.

The King of Pop’s excellent reputation ensured his family benefitted from having the stretch limos hired at a heavily discounted rate showing that his good name and generous nature is still remembered. His children, Prince Michael aged 12, Paris aged 11 and Blanket aged 7 travelled in the blacked out Rolls Royce limos along with Michael’s parents and his Jackson siblings.

Over 200 mourners attended the private ceremony and it took a 31-car motorcade to transport the whole group which included the actress and close friend of Jackson, Dame Elizabeth Taylor, his ex-wife Lisa Marie Presley, and former child star Macaulay Culkin. Notable absentees were the singer and confidante of Jackson, Diana Ross and his other ex-wife and mother of two of his children, Debbie Rowe.

It was reported that the Jackson brothers acted as pallbearers and Gladys Knight sang a version of The Lord’s Prayer during the ceremony. Michael’s three children are also believed to have each written a note for their father which they lay next to his coffin. The Baptist Minister Rev Al Sharpton, who has been a great source of comfort to the family during this sad time, conducted the funeral ceremony.
