Bride runs to wedding after vintage Bentley gets stuck

A bride from York had to hot-foot it to her own wedding after the vintage car she’d hired to transport her on the big day got stuck turning around in the hotel car park.

Kirsty Beckett had arranged for her chauffeur driven Bentley wedding car to collect her from The Churchill Hotel in York on the morning of her wedding to transport her to the nearby church where she was due to marry fiancé Johnny Vintis.

However disaster struck when the chauffeur attempted to turn the classic wedding car around ready to whisk the bride off to the church as the vehicle became stuck. Despite several attempts to manoeuvre the Bentley out of its tight spot, the bride decided time was ticking away and if she left it any longer, the groom might think she was having second thoughts.

At this point bride Kirsty put her vanity to one side, hitched her wedding dress up and ran the short distance to the church in heels. The runaway bride also attracted lots of attention from passersby, many of whom stopped and stared as Kirsty ran down the street in her full bridal outfit.

The vicar and bridesmaids had assembled outside as they waited anxiously to see what the hold-up was. Luckily, it is the bride’s prerogative to be late, and Kirsty certainly made the most of the tradition, arriving just over 20 minutes late for the ceremony. Despite the wedding car mishap, the Kirsty and Johnny made it down the aisle and the rest of the wedding went according to plan.

Bride arrives in Porsche wedding car she hand-built herself

26-year-old Megan Ashton has always had a passion for cars, so when it came to choosing the right wedding car to transport her on her big day, she needed something extra special. So when her partner popped the question two years ago, Megan rolled up her sleeves and got stuck into building her own dream wedding car.

Having grown up around motors at her dad’s garage in Devon, tinkering with cars is second nature to the bride-to-be. The Royal Navy engineer had bought a clapped out Volkswagen Beetle 6 years ago with the plan of creating a Porsche replica, however it wasn’t until the wedding started to loom that the brunette began work in earnest on her restoration project.

Fitting her time around wedding planning, dress shopping, and work on her would-be wedding car proved challenging for Megan, not to mention costly. The 26-year-old even asked for her parents to buy her parts for her car in place of gifts every Christmas and birthday to help with her project.

However all of the hard work more than paid off as the blushing bride succeeded in transforming the wreck of a car into a gleaming Porsche replica estimated to be worth a massive £25,000. The silver sports car was decked out with ribbons especially for the big day in Wiltshire and proved to be one of the main focal points of the wedding day.

Wedding car swapped for a wedding truck

Bride-to-be Jenna Runacre from Saddleworth had dreamed of arriving on her big day in the back of a horse drawn carriage, however fears over bad weather, and the 3-mile trek to the church, cast doubts over the bride’s dream wedding day transportation.

The 3-mile journey from the bride’s home to the nearby church to marry Gareth Whiteley was a concern to the family as they believed the horse and carriage may take too long, and could also be affected by the possible bad weather.

Not wanting to let his daughter down, Jenna’s father arranged to borrow a 12-litre rig from his friend who runs a haulage company.

In an attempt to create the horse theme Jenna wanted, the black cab of the truck was transformed with coloured horses painted over the outside. The finishing touches were provided with fairy lights and coloured silk which decorated the truck to create the perfect wedding look.

The specially customised wedding truck was a complete surprise to the bride, who was gobsmacked by her ride to the church.

The bridesmaids followed up the bride in her horse themed truck in a sleek chauffeur driven Bentley, while the best man and groom rolled up to the church in a vintage Mustang Saloon.

The bride didn’t seem at all disappointed to have not had her horse and carriage, and described the truck as “absolutely stunning” before hopping onboard and being whisked off to her wedding.

Bride in tears as wedding car gets parking fine

A bride from Dunstable was left in floods of tears on her wedding day after one of her wedding cars was slapped with a parking fine outside the local registry office.

The Black BMW wedding car had chauffeured a disabled family member to the ceremony and had a blue disabled badge parking permit on display at the time the ticket was issued, the bride claims.

39-year-old bride Rebecca Ridgway had even taken the time to check with the venue that it was acceptable to park the said wedding car outside, and was assured it was fine, as long as the blue disabled badge was clearly on display. But despite this, the wedding car was hit by a parking ticket as the bridal party waited outside the venue ahead of the ceremony.

As well as issuing the wedding car with a parking fine, bride-to-be Rebecca also alleges that the female traffic warden was “rude” and also “abusive” which the 39-year-old has detailed in her letter of complaint to the parking regulators and also the council.

The unpleasant incident marred what should have been the happiest day of this bride’s life as she described how her first words to groom Andrew Wilson were, “we’ve got a parking ticket” as she arrived at the ceremony for their wedding blessing.

The couple had married in a ceremony abroad a few months earlier, but the wedding blessing in Dunstable was supposed to be their celebration with their family and friends.

In their defence, the council say that vehicles parked in the area where the ticket was issued must display as parking permit as well as a blue disable badge. The matter is being investigated.

Guns N’ Roses front man, Axl Rose, is being sued by a car rental company after he hired a luxury Bentley Flying Spur and returned it in a terrible state of disrepair.

The rock singer hired the luxury car in 2006, but 4 years on, the car rental company are still waiting to for Axl Rose to settle up the $73,976 bill he racked up during the rental period.

According to the legal papers filed against the singer in the US, the car hire company states the Bentley was returned with a cracked windscreen, damage to two tyres, smashed tail light, broken remote control key to lock the vehicle, and numerous dents, bumps and scratches over the bumpers and doors.

The legal papers have been filed at Los Angeles County Supreme Court pending the case coming to court. As yet, there’s been no word from Axl Rose’s camp regarding the allegations.

The Guns N’ Roses star is also alleged to have run over his mileage limit by 42,397 miles in the top of the range Bentley Flying Spur estimated to have been worth $192,000.

It’s believed Axl originally hired the car in 2005, but went over his hire period, finally retuning the car to the hire firm in 2006.

The car hire company, Bentley Financial Services, is attempting to claim damages from the musician totalling $75,000.

Son creates specially adapted Bentley hearse for father’s last journey

Eddie Ewart was a great admirer of the Bentley

For classic car enthusiast Eddie Ewart, no ordinary hearse would do. The hotelier from Edinburgh had enjoyed a life-long passion for the luxury car brand, Bentley, so it was only fitting he should make his final journey in one.

Mr Ewart’s son shared his father’s love of cars and even altered the Bentley himself so as to use it as a hearse for the 75-year-old. Fraser Ewart said he’d had searched for a Bentley hearse but couldn’t find one in the local area, so there was only one thing he could do, as he explained: “I rolled my sleeves up and transformed the last one he owned.”

Eddie Ewart had spent much of his life tinkering with classic cars, but the Bentley had stood out as a favourite for him. Cars were an important part of his life, so much so that his younger son Gordon recalled him saying: “he would love to go early rather than not drive. Safe journey, then.”

The specially adapted Bentley R-Type 1953 saloon transported the coffin to the crematorium. More than 400 fellow car enthusiast, friends, and relatives turned out to bid farewell to the much loved man. A jazz trio then played When The Saints Go Marching In, as they entered the building. Son Fraser said it would have been, “the way he’d want to go.”

Chauffeur driven Rolls Royce provided as part of the prize for a wedding competition for military servicemen and women

A Devonshire businessman who runs his own wedding car company has launched a competition, which is open to all military servicemen and women, to win a complete wedding day package.

The wedding venue has been donated by Lady Arran who will provide her home, the picturesque Castle Hill. The winning couple will also get a taste of the celebrity lifestyle as their wedding will be featured in local glossy magazine, Archant Life.

Kieron Freeburn, the owner of wedding car hire company Classic Carriages, came up with the idea of donating his services free of charge to a local member of the armed forces to show his appreciation for the work these brave men and women have undertaken. The idea snowballed from there, with more and more suppliers agreeing to supply their services at no cost.

Terry Wogan’s Bentley goes under the hammer at classic car auction

Wogan's Bentley up for sale at Brightwells car auction

More than 100 classic cars, including Terry Wogan’s Bentley, are due to go under the hammer next Saturday, December 12th, at Brightwells classic car auction in Leominster. Another vehicle with a claim to fame due to be sold at the sale is a Rover driven by actress Penelope Keith in the final episode of a TV series, Coming Home.

The Leominster classic car auction has given the Penelope Keith Rover a guide price of £3,000, whilst Sir Terry’s 1984 Bentley has an estimated price double that of Rover, standing at £6,000.

Car expert, James Dennison, at Brightwell’s auction says he has reason to believe that Wogan’s Bentley will have been well looked after and not driven recklessly after seeing the Radio 2 presenter’s performance on Top Gear. On the BBC show during the segment “star in a reasonably priced car” Sir Terry clocked up one of the slowest circuits ever recorded on the show, as Mr Dennison said, “His time was even beaten by a blind man, so it’s safe to assume the Bentley has never been thrashed.”

Other special classic cars up for sale at this weeks auction include a 1994 Ferrari Mondial T Cabriolet, a 1903 Oldsmobile and a 1955 Jaguar XK140 Roadster reportedly owned by Lord Colin Cowdrey.
