Car hire provider honoured with smoke free award

no smoking sign against the blue sky

Car hire giant Avis Budget was honoured last week with a smoke free award for their dedication in rolling out non-smoking rental cars across Canada and America.

The campaign group Americans for Non Smokers’ Rights awarded the car hire provider with the accolade to recognise the efforts the company has made in launching smoke free zones in all rental cars across its entire fleet in the US and Canada.

Avis Budget were singled out for the Smoke Free Business Award because of the dedication the company has shown over the last two years to a smoke free policy across all of its rental vehicles.

The car hire provider explained that their decision to ban smoking by employees and customer in all of their rentals cars in America and Canada was a reaction to customer demand as the company noted more and more requests for fresh smelling, smoke free cars. The company first launched their non smoking scheme in North America back in 2009.

The car rental expert is planning to build on their success in introducing a smoke free policy in their hire cars by extending the scheme so as to make all of their rental outlets in America and Canada smoke free zones as well.

The Americans for Non Smokers’ Rights described Avis Budget car hire’s smoke free policy as being a model for the rest of the industry to follow.

Car hire giant launches home delivery service

New car drop-off and collection service is launched

One of the UK’s largest car rental companies, Avis UK, has launched a brand new service which allows customers to have their hire car delivered right to their front door.

Avis UK is aiming to make its car hire service more accessible and convenient for all of its customers. As well as dropping of your rental vehicle at your chosen location, the company will also send a driver to pick up your car at the end of your hire period.

The move spells good news for holidaymakers in the UK who previously, would have had to have taken valuable time out of their holiday to travel to the hire depot to pick up and drop off a hire car. The service also makes car hire more accessible for those without alternative means of transport to travel to the hire centre; before the service customers would have had to travel to the depot on public transport or by taxi which can be both time consuming and often costly.

The service is available all over the UK, except in London, between Mondays and Saturdays and costs just £10 each way, so the cost of having your car dropped off and collected works out very reasonably.

Smokeless cigarettes could be offered as part of car hire packages

Cigarettes which produce no smoke could be introduced by car rental firmsCigarettes which produce no smoke could be introduced by car rental firms

A smokeless cigarette manufacturer is in talks with several major car hire firms to discuss the possible introduction of the product to rental vehicles. The moves comes after Avis Budget car hire banned smoking it its vehicles in the US and Canada last month and many other companies are likely to follow. However an alternative is needed for those customers who do wish to smoke, hence the discussion regarding the smokeless cigarette.

Low-budget airline, Ryanair, have already introduced smokeless cigarettes to their in-flight service and the same company which supplies Ryanair is now looking to expand its business to cover the car rental market. In the same way that extras can be added on to your car hire package such as sat navs and child seats, soon you may be able to include smokeless cigarettes on that list.

Many car hire firms have noticed that they are losing out on customers by offering cars which have not been smoke-free. Often families in particular won’t hire a vehicle which has allowed smoking which is why the move to introduce a blanket ban on smoking has been taken up by some firms. However the smokeless cigarette is hoped to go a long way towards remedying this issue.

The product leaves no nasty odour in the air or on the upholstery of the vehicle, it is available with or without nicotine, and in-car chargers are also available to re-boost you cigarette. If the deal goes ahead, car hire companies plan to sell the smokeless cigarettes for $6 a packet and they will be on available from the car hire desk.

The beauty of the Porsche Panamera is that it’s big enough to accommodate 4 passengers, unlike the majority of sports cars. Instead it features 4 doors, luxury leather seating for 4 people, and a boot at the rear of the vehicle to carry luggage. As for the technical mechanics, according to the Porsche specification the new model has standard direct injection, PDK, start stop technology and optional aerodynamics.

It’s a recent addition to the Porsche family having only been revealed at the Shanghai Automobile Show last April. Avis is the first car hire company to pick up the Porsche Panamera. It joins an already impressive line-up of sports cars including the new Jaguar XKR 5.0 Cabriolet, the Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster and the Ferrari F430 F1 Spider which are already available to hire through Avis.

The starting hire price for the Porsche is €189 for a day or €567 for a weekend. According to the car hire firm, the Porsche Panamera isn’t too expensive to run as it features brand new technology which aids fuel efficiency.
