The Mayor of Macclesfield and his fellow councillors have come up with a car-sharing plan which will help slash the cost of a chauffeur driven limo to transport the mayor while on official business.
Local businessman Andrew Smith who owns and runs his own funeral services company has struck a deal with the Macclesfield council whereby Mr Smith will provide the Mayor with the use of his black limo for official engagements.
Previously the Major’s transport was paid for with taxpayer’s money, however the new deal means the public is no longer footing the bill as Andrew Smith Funeral Services is now the official sponsor of the mayor’s car.
Not only is local businessman Andrew Smith providing the use of his limousine, he’s also offering his services as a chauffeur and will be on hand to drive the mayor in the limo during official trips.
This is the first partnership of its kind in the Macclesfield area, however the council are keen to get more local businesses onboard in different roles. The benefit is two-fold in that the council is able to save money, while at the same time helping to boost local businesses.
The government and local councils have been under pressure in recent times to reduce their use of luxuries such as chauffeur driven cars, therefore this new venture in Macclesfield couldn’t have come at a better time, and will hopefully inspire other councils to embark on similar schemes.
