Leona Lewis of X-Factor fame is recovering today after being assaulted by a fan during a London book signing yesterday afternoon. The singer was left in tears after a man who’d queued patiently for hours to meet the star suddenly turned on her punching her in the head.

The Bleeding Love singer was attending a book signing for her brand new autobiography, Dreams, at Waterstones in Piccadilly when the assault took place. However the event was cut short after 90 minutes when the 29-year-old man who was described as looking untidy, hit the singer from Hackney in the face.

Leona apologised to fans for having to draw the signing to a close early. She was taken to a doctor immediately afterwards as her face was said to be swollen, but she did not require medical treatment. Leona was forced to pull out of a One Show appearance for the BBC last night and she has since cancelled a day long promotional tour of Germany scheduled for today as she recovered from her ordeal.

Despite hiding behind dark glasses, Leona was clearly tearful as she left the London book store. One eyewitness said the man who struck the singer appeared to find the whole incident funny. He was pounced upon by security and has since been taken into custody by the police.
