A1 Limos donate hummer limo trip to London for poorly mother and her family

A mother of two from Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire, who is waiting for a double lung transplant, is about to receive the VIP treatment with a hummer limo shopping trip to London. A local hairdressers decided to raise money in their salon to allow the poorly 34-year-old to have a special day out.

Since being diagnosed with emphysema two years ago Kate Powell has relied on an oxygen tank 24 hours a day to help her breathe. Ms Powell was born with congenital heart disease and had to have a number of operations before the age of 10. After being placed on the transplant list last month, the brave mum of two is taking tablets to make her heart strong enough to undergo the double lung transplant operation.

New Image hair salon in the Ms Powell’s local town decided to raise money in order to treat her and her family after seeing what they’ve gone through during past two years. The owner of New Image, Tracy Pears, is planning to send Ms Powell and her two sons off for a day of Christmas shopping in London. A1 Limos have kindly donated the services of their chauffeur driven hummer limo to the cause.

After hearing what the generous hairdressers had organised Ms Powell said: “When I told the boys we were going to London they were so excited. They have been brilliant- they are like my little carers.”

Another fundraising event is being held in the hair salon on December 6th with money from hair cuts being put towards a professional photography session for Ms Powell and her family.

Car Hire firm taken to court for charging customer for clutch failure

car rental firm sued after charging credit card without the customer's consent

Budget car hire firm, Rent-A-Car are being sued by an elderly customer after they charged him £820 for repairing a broken clutch on their vehicle just 5 hours after the customer had collected the car.

78-year-old Christopher Pole-Carew was hit with the massive bill after his hire car broke down after just 5 hours use. Mr Pole-Carew, a former newspaper chief, was not made aware that the company were deducting the charge from his credit card, and only discovered the money had been taken after receiving his credit card bill.

When Mr Pole-Carew contacted Rent-A-Car to ask why he had been charged, the firm said the cost was to cover the repair work on the broken clutch. Mr Pole-Carew admitted that had the cost been more reasonable, he may have let the matter go. However he felt that £820 was an extortionate amount and decided he had no option but to take the matter further.

After consulting some experts from the motor industry, Mr Pole-Carew was told that it was extremely unlikely that a clutch in good working order would suddenly break after just 5 hours of use.

The case is now being taken to the petty claims court on the grounds that the car hire company deducted money from Mr Pole-Carew’s credit card without his consent or knowledge.

Russian investor spends millions on limousine owned by Hitler

A Mercedes limousine, reported to have been used to chauffeur Adolf Hitler, is about to be snapped up by a Russian investor for a seven figure sum.

The midnight blue coloured limo was tracked down by a German classic car dealer, Michael Fröhlich, who discovered the vehicle in northern Germany where it was owned by a collector. Mr Fröhlich has sold on a number of vehicles with connections to people of note. Previously he negotiated the sale of John Lennon’s Mercedes and Charlie Chaplin’s Bentley.

The open top limo is said to have been used to transport Hitler through the crowds of saluting Nazi supporters during the Second World War. However the man who traced the limo said he was in “two minds” about taking on the job, adding that he had lost many members of his family during the war. Fröhlich admitted that the limo “disgusts” him but despite this, experts have estimated that the vehicle is worth between €4 – €10 million.

The limousine’s log book reportedly reveals an entry which states that the vehicle was delivered to “The Führer and Reich Chancellor” in 1935. The dealer said he has also found an old photograph of Hitler onboard a limo with the same number plate as the vehicle. As well as bullet proof glass the Mercedes limo also features armoured plates and would have been a top of the range model at the time it was made.

Car dealer Michael Fröhlich, who has been in the business for 30 years, says finding Hitler’s limo was his “most unusual deal ever, by far.”

Pussycat Dolls split rumour not true

The Pussycat Dolls deny they've split

The founder of chart topping girl band The Pussycat Dolls has spoken out to put the record straight on rumours that the group are on the brink of splitting. Robin Antim said there “is no truth” in the media reports that the girls are about to disband.

There had been whispers this week that all was not well between lead singer Nicole Scherzinger and the rest of the girls. Some reports suggested that the other band members had frozen out their lead singer and were giving her the silent treatment.

The other group members, Melody Thornton, Jessica Sutta, Ashley Roberts, and Kimberly Wyatt were said to be unhappy with the fact that Nicole is a far more significant figure in the band with a bigger profile.

However Robin Antim who oversees the band has vehemently denied this saying, “Nicole and the girls have ALWAYS been close.” Before adding, “The Pussycat Dolls are very much ALIVE and there is NO truth to the silent treatment statements.”

Nicole, who is currently dating Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton, is said to be working on a solo project. However her debut album made back in 2007 entitled, My Name Is Nicole, was never released and instead many of the tracks ended up on the Pussycat Doll’s album. The last album from the Pussycat Dolls was released in September 2008.

Arriva named “Brand Emissions Leader” for commitment to greenhouse gas performance

European transport group Arriva plc has been named a Brand Emissions Leader for its performance in cutting its greenhouse gas emissions intensity and putting ambitious targets in place for further reductions.

Researchers at the Edinburgh University Business School and ENDS Carbon, a specialist carbon ratings agency, analysed the carbon emissions performance and published targets of more than 600 household names, with just 121 meeting the standard to be judged Brand Emissions Leaders.

In the transport sector Arriva was identified as a Brand Emissions Leader – the survey’s highest ranking – alongside Eurostar and Eurotunnel Group who were named best of sector.

In 2008 Arriva set itself a challenge of reducing its like-for-like greenhouse gas emissions footprint by 15 per cent, by 2012, from a 2006 base level.

Arriva Plc chief executive David Martin said: “Even though bus and rail services already have many environmental advantages over some other modes of transport, we still believe it is important to improve the efficiency of our own operations.  Arriva is rapidly deploying a range of carbon reduction technologies in the UK and elsewhere in Europe. These including aids to more economical, smoother driving; a wide range of alternative fuels; and advanced hybrid vehicles. It’s rewarding to see our efforts recognised in this survey which puts us alongside some of the best respected household names.”

The first annual Brand Emissions Leaders Report was commissioned by Marketing magazine and Brand Republic. The research was conducted using data from the Carbon Disclosure Project (the largest carbon database in the world), and a survey of company websites and reports.

The organisations identified as Brand Emissions Leaders were judged to have demonstrated they are reducing emissions and have ambitious targets in line with the UK Government’s Copenhagen goal of 34 per cent carbon emissions reductions by 2020 from 1990 levels.

Limousine window shattered during attack in Strabane

A stretch limo was struck by rocks thrown by a gang of youths last Friday night as it drove through Strabane in Northern Ireland. The limo, owned by The Limousine Company, was on its way to pick up a group of teenagers to take them to a school prom when the incident happened.

The limo chauffeur, Sean Nicholas, described how he had forgotten his sat nav and so stopped at a set of traffic lights to ask the group of youths for directions. As the limo pulled away, one of the gang is reported to have thrown a rock at the limousine shattering one of the windows. The chauffeur described the attack as “blatant vandalism.”

Despite the damage to the limo, the quick thinking chauffeur managed to patch up the broken window using duct tape to hold the smashed glass in place. Thanks to the chauffeur’s handy work, the school prom booking he was en route for was able to go ahead. The police are investigating the attack.

In a separate incident in Strabane, 3 limousines were damaged after a group of vandals gained entry to a limo hire depot. The 3 vehicles are reported to have had headlights and tail lights smashed during the break in. Police are also appealing for anyone with information regarding either incident to come forward.

It seems vintage wedding cars are out along with white limos and Hummers; the trend for the coming wedding season is the majestic Rolls Royce Phantom. This luxurious limo offers masses of onboard space which is especially important for brides who may be wearing a lengthy dress. The Rolls Royce is highly regarded as one of the most elegant vehicles in existence. Without being over the top and flash, it offers the right amount of opulence to ensure you feel extra special on your big day.
