Oasis band songwriter Noel Gallagher announced he’ll never play with brother and (apparently former) bandmate Liam Gallagher again after a fight reportedly led to the cancellation of their tour – but their mum predicted the band breakup will be temporary.

Oasis’s album, Dig Out Your Soul, has sold over 1.6 million copies worldwide since its release last October.

Since forming in 1991, the band has sold more than 50 million records and had eight number one singles in Britain.

Prior to the brothers having their differences, Liam spoke to Channelnewsasia.com in confidence:

“Oasis is my thing. I was born to be in Oasis. I was born to make Oasis the best. That’s what my goal is,” he told .

“I love the music. I love playing it. I love going around the world, seeing the fans and stuff. I can’t wait to get back there.”

Since the on-going personal issues between the two brothers, opinions have changed and the Gallagher brothers are not on speaking terms.

The rock band which was formed in Manchester in 1991, originally known as The Rain split this Friday amid reports that Liam smashed a guitar backstage and told Noel: “You’re no brother of mine.” Their fight is said to have become so violent that an ambulance was called.

Car Hire Company launches new pay-as-you-go scheme

Job likely to face the axe at vehicle rental call centre in Bathnew pay-as-you-go scheme for car hire company

The U.K’s biggest car hire company, Europcar, has launched a new pay-as-you-go system for both van and car hire to entice more business customers. In this time of economic uncertainty small and medium sized enterprises (SME’s) are becoming increasingly reluctant to commit themselves to long term contracts; this new system hopes to go some way to resolving this issue.

The Managing Director of Europcar, Catriona Lougher, explained the new scheme in detail: “With the future looking so uncertain, pay as you go car and van hire makes a lot of sense enabling businesses to respond quickly to opportunities without being tied into longer term contracts. Crucially we have removed potential barriers such as credit checks and improved access to vehicles with free delivery and collection for less frequent customers to make car and van hire much more convenient.”

Europcar is certainly pulling out all the stops in a bid to attract new business customers. They are offering free delivery within a 10 mile radius of a depot on any vehicle ordered. As an added incentive, companies can pre-pay for their van or car hire and receive a lower rate than paying on delivery.

SME’s are also offered a fixed 15% reduction off standard rates regardless of how frequently or infrequently they require car hire. Alternatively, if you require vehicle hire on a regular basis, Europcar offers SME’s the opportunity to open a Business Account which will guarantee these customers a special fixed rate.

Europcar hopes that by working alongside businesses they can create tailor made, cost effective car hire packages which cater to individual company needs. This flexible approach to car hire is sure to open up a wide range of opportunities and may prompt other car hire firms to re-think their business customer’s needs.

Ford Mondeo wedding car hire saves the day

Ford Mondeo wedding car whisks stranded bride to the alter

A bride-to-be from Southsea was left in quite a pickle after the stunning Rolls Royce she’d hired to be her wedding car broke down outside her house. Luckily her helpful neighbour was standing by with her trusty Ford Mondeo ready to whisk the wedding party to the ceremony in time.

Ali Slater was the luck-less bride in question and admitted she started to panic as there was a great deal at stake and “time was ticking.” If she didn’t make it in time, they’d lose their slot and miss the wedding altogether so the pressure was really on.

Neighbour Della Southwell, who had never met the bride before, only happened to call upon Ali as she wanted to see the bride’s dress. She stood by to wave the wedding party off, only to hear a strange chugging noise from the Rolls Royce Wedding car as the chauffeur attempted to start the engine.

It was clear the Rolls Royce wasn’t going anywhere so Neighbour Della sprang into action. She threw a gold wrap over the back seat of the car, revved her Ford Mondeo into action and delivered the bride and her father Gavin to The Royal Maritime Club in Portsmouth with just minutes to spare.

The waiting bridesmaids were very amused to see their bride arrive in a rather less glamorous wedding car than expected, however the whole bridal party did manage to see the funny side. The new Mrs Slater said she is “totally indebted to Della for taking me. It just goes to show people do do nice things for others.”

An investigation carried out into the original wedding car revealed a faulty wire was to blame. The owner of the wedding car hire company said “we do several hundred weddings a year and incidences such as this are very rare.”

CBS ran a report on All Over Town Limousine and Formal Wear and suggested that the firm had failed to pay over $70,000 in road toll charges and fines. An attorney acting on behalf of the limo company warned CBS that their allegations were bogus when they visited the company premises to conduct a broadcast. This incident also forms another aspect of the limo firm’s complaint as they allege that the footage used in the broadcast was obtained after reporters trespassed on their private property.

All Over Town Limo Hire is also suing after their company logos and images were used in the footage broadcast by CBS without their permission. During the report the limo company was branded a “toll cheat” and is was claimed that the owner, John Groff snr, had a track record of dodging fines and had previously been charged.

The case continues with the Limo Hire Company claiming for compensatory and punitive damages and for the detrimental effect the TV report has had on their business and reputation.

Notting Hill Carnival comes to town

Every August bank holiday weekend since 1966 the streets of West London have been invaded by a vibrant and colourful street party like no other. Over the years the carnival has gained momentum and is now the largest spectacle of its kind in Europe. This unique festival features 20 miles of brightly coloured costumes, musical floats including steel bands and row upon row of stalls selling all kinds of interesting foods and artefacts.

The Notting Hill Carnival attracts over a million visors every year. The festival started out as an event for West Indian people to celebrate its culture, however people from all backgrounds and ethnicities now flock to the event although there is still a distinct West Indian flavour to proceedings.

People young and old are welcomed to the carnival. The two day event is split into two with the children having their moment to shine on the Sunday, with the adults and their costumes centre stage on the Monday. A huge array of musical spectacles and decorated floats and costumed people make up the stunning street procession. And once the procession is over, the fun starts all over again at the various after show parties taking place all over the area.

If you’re planning to visit the Notting Hill Carnival this year you’d be well advised to plan your transport in advance. Many of the local tube stops are closed during the carnival leaving visitors to rely on the bus service and private hire taxis. If you’d like to attend this extravagant festival in style, you could look into chauffeur driven limo hire to ensure you get back and forth safely and enjoy the occasion to the full.

Private car hire drivers struggling to make a living

Taxi drivers struggling to make a living

Private car hire and taxi drivers are struggling to make a living as they’re hit hard by the credit crunch. Pubs and clubs are also feeling the pinch as cash-strapped punters stay away; this is having a detrimental knock-on effect on the taxi and private hire industry.

The summer is often a tricky time for cab drivers. With the children off school and many people away on holiday, there’s a decrease in demand for taxi services. However this year, it’s been worse than ever.

Chris Addison has been a taxi driver in Preston for 9 years. He estimates that on a bad day, he ends up working for an average of £2.50 an hour which is woefully below the national minimum wage. After a full 8 hour shift Chris is looking at taking home just £20 for a full day’s work.

The 41-year-old father of three says the lack of money is having an impact on family life. Often he admits the money simply isn’t there to buy his children the things they need. He revealed that his children understand how difficult their financial situation is and now, rarely ask for anything as Chris said: “Usually they are not that demanding and they do not ask for too much – I am pretty lucky on that sense.”

A row erupted earlier this year as Virgin trains cut the amount of parking spaces available for the taxi rank at the local railway station. Preston city centre was brought to a standstill after scores of taxi drivers blocked the streets in protest, the argument is still grumbling on.

With this decrease in trade from railway pick-ups, the weekend has become especially important. However it seems this avenue of work has also dried up significantly with the smoking ban and increased beer prices being blamed for keeping punters away.

The approaching festive season should offer some hope for taxi drivers, although if this trend continues, many may be forced to seek out alternative careers.

Fire engine serves as wedding car for one wacky couple

Fire engine serves as wedding car hire

Fire engine serves as wedding car hire

Newlyweds David and Kate Cowley from Douglas on the Isle of Man dispensed with the traditional wedding car in favour of something more, red. Fire engines and firemen are usually reserved for the hen do but since Kate had just married one, it seemed fitting to have the big red engine transport them on their big day.

27 year-old David has been a fire fighter for 4 years and was able to draft in a dozen colleagues from the Red Watch to help out on the big day. The firemen drove the happy couple from the church in Douglas to their reception at luxury 4 star establishment, the Mount Murray Hotel.

The fireman trend seems to run in the family as David’s father is also a member of the fire service. He enjoyed the day immensely saying it “was such a wonderful occasion” and that everyone had a “cracking day.”

The pair got engaged in equally dramatic fashion. After appearing in an amateur production of the aptly named musical, Disco Inferno, David got down on one knee at the end of the show whilst still stood on stage.

If you feel inspired by Kate and David’s unusual wedding day transport but don’t have a fire engine at your disposal, don’t despair. There are hundreds of wedding car hire and novelty limo hire companies which offer customised fire engines for hire, complete with a fireman chauffeur. You too can have wedding car hire to remember.

The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) has issued its approval to the new Chrysler limo. The 300c- based Icon Illusion limo is now the first stretch vehicle in its category to be fully sanctioned by the agency. Many believe the move will provide a much needed boost to the U.K limo hire industry.

The Chrysler Icon Illusion seats 8 passengers and has a price tag of £56,995 (excluding VAT) and a second limo is scheduled to be premiered at major transport industry event, Drive 09, at the end of September.

These new and improved Chrysler Limos offer many benefits over previous models. The Icon Illusion is 25% more fuel efficient in comparison to the Lincoln Town Car limo. These new models also feature the latest in cutting edge technology including touch screen panels, reversing cameras and hidden opera lights in the rear.

Mark Farrell the Managing Director of 1st 4Limo Sales who manufacture the limo explained why it was vital the Chrysler obtain this approval. He revealed that the VOSA had tightened its rules in recent times to improve the safety of luxury limos and limit their impact upon the environment. All new limos must now comply with these regulations and be issued with an Individual Vehicle (IVA) and Special Vehicle (SVA) approval in order to be allowed for use on U.K roads.

Former Mayor of Peterborough defends the cost of chauffeur driven car hire

Mayor of Peterborough defends use of chauffeur driven car hire

The cost of a chauffeur driven Jaguar to transport the Mayor of Peterborough has been revealed as £123 a day. The figures were released after a request was made using the Freedom of Information Act.

The amount of £44,908 covers the period of one year between 2007/08 and includes the cost of the chauffeur, the vehicle and petrol. The figure has risen from the previous year when the overall expenditure on car hire for the mayor came to £42,426. The cost is expected to rise year on year as the price of fuel continues to increase pushing up the expense of motoring.

Marion Todd was the mayor of Peterborough between 2007/08. She is still a member of the Peterborough Council and felt the need to speak out in order to defend her use of the chauffeur driven car. Ms. Todd believes a chauffeured vehicle is vital if the position of mayor is to be carried out properly. Amongst her other reasons she highlighted the high number of public engagements the mayor is expected to attend, sometimes as many as 6 a day.

Another contributing factor is the very small wage the mayor is actually paid. Ms. Todd claimed to only receive £160 a month for her role as mayor meaning there would be no spare money to cover the costs of the chauffeur and car. She summed up succinctly saying “Having a vehicle and a driver helps any mayor do the job to the best of their ability.”

A spokesperson for Peterborough Council offered his support to the argument. He emphasized the huge amount charity work undertaken by the major, often raising thousands of pounds each year for worthy causes.

Reaction to the news from local residents has been mixed. Many argue the role of mayor should be scrapped all together whilst others see the chauffeur driven car as a legitimate expense.
