Leicester Comedy Festival in Feb 2009

Those keen on comedy may be interested in booking limos for the Leicester Comedy Festival, which begins February 6th 2009.

Among the comedians set to take to the stage for this year’s festival are television’s Jimmy Carr, Andy Parsons and Ed Byrne.

This year’s if.comedy winner, David O’Doherty, and best newcomer, Sarah Millican, will also be making an appearance in Leicester next spring.

Running until February 15th, the Leicester Comedy Festival has been running since 1994 across 23 of the city’s venues.

There is also plenty to do for children and families at the festival too, where the main programme is complemented every year by a series of workshops.

This year, the festival will debut a new festival friends scheme, enabling audiences to get even closer to the action on stage.

The festival is held at various venues throughout the city, including De Monfort Hall, The Y, Loughborough Town Hall and the Richard Attenborough Centre.

West End star plans Trafalgar Square show

Maria Friedman is set to bring her acclaimed solo show to London’s Trafalgar Studios for the festive period, it has been confirmed.

After a successful run at the Menier Chocolate Factory earlier in the year, Maria Friedman: Rearranged will start its run at the West End venue on November 27th and will continue for 25 nights before ending on January 4th.

In the production, the stage star and her 11-piece band perform new interpretations of classics by the likes of Irving Berlin, Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim and Andrew Lloyd Weber.

Given that Friedman has wowed critics and audiences alike over the course of her West End career, which has seen her take leading roles in Chicago, The Woman in White and Sweeney Todd, it is likely that the news will lead to a surge in demand for limo hire as theatre lovers give themselves a Christmas treat.

Running alongside Maria Friedman: Rearranged at the Trafalgar Studios will be Horrid Henry: Live and Horrid, with the children’s show set to be staged during the day and in the early evenings.

Glasto 2009 to be “one of the best”

Next year’s Glastonbury Festival will be “one of the best” ever held, according to organisers.

Festival organiser Michael Eavis could barely hide his excitement as he commented on the first round of ticket sales, which took place this weekend.

He said: “It’s really exciting that people are still remembering one of the best festivals we’ve ever held and are clearly already looking forward to the next one.

“June saw the most diverse audience for ten years or so, and hopefully this new fairer ticket system will mean that we have a great crowd again in 2009.”

Ticket sales have also to live up to this high billing, leaving little better incentive for music fans to book their place and car hire to the legendary summer festival.

More than half of the 137,500 available tickets had been sold or reserved by the end of Sunday for next year’s five-day festival, which will take place between June 24th and 28th.

Remaining tickets will go on sale from April 5th 2009.

Royal limo to feature at London auction

A 1953 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible State Limousine used for a Belgian Royal wedding will go on sales in a London auction on October 29th.

The vehicle is estimated to be worth £120,000 and was used at the wedding of Prince Albert II and Princess Paolo.

However, the limousine will not be the only vehicle with star connections to go on sale at the auction by Sotherby’s in the Battersea Evolution arena tomorrow.

The iconic Ferrari featured in the film Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, will also be going on sale.

This 1963 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spyder has driven by Cameron Diaz in the Hollywood blockbuster and could sell at around £3.5 million.

Max Girado, European director at RM Auctons, said: “[This] London auction is set to be another very important event on the global collector car calendar.

“With a spectacular line-up of motor cars and a hotly-anticipated cocktail reception, the event is set to not only capture the attention of the automotive world but also the London social scene.”

Cole’s vowel renewal rumour

Limousines, wedding bells and other extravagances could once again be on the cards for celebrity couple Ashley and Cheryl Cole.

The couple are said to be planning to renew their vows in a second wedding ceremony.

X Factor judge Cheryl, who has become a favourite among fans of the show told OK! magazine that she was keen to build a successful married life with Chelsea left back Ashley.

She said: “We’re a work in progress. We’re going to build our married life together, not thinking about what if it ever ends.

“I wasn’t looking for a relationship when I met Ashley and certainly not a long-term one. But pretty soon after I met him I knew something was different and I knew I had never felt that before.”

The pair’s relationship has been far from smooth since their marriage in July 2006, with the footballer having allegedly cheated on the Girls Aloud singer in a one night stand.
