Cardiff is set to launch a brand new car hire facility in an attempt to ease congestion in the city centre.
The Welsh capital will be joining the likes of Edinburgh, Bath and Bristol who already have a similar scheme in operation.
As part of the new City Car Club facility 10 low emission cars will be available for hire per hour throughout Cardiff city centre. It is hoped the new venture will encourage families to do away with their second cars, which will in turn help to reduce congestion on Cardiff streets.
The scheme is being jointly funded for the next two years by the Welsh Assembly Government and the Sustainable Travel City Initiative at a cost of £120,000. The service will be available in Cardiff from October.
In order to use the City Car Club hire car, you much first become a member by signing up online. Members will then be issued with a card which will unlock the vehicle. Once inside the driver will have been a pin which they must then input onto the car’s keypad system which will then release the keys from a secure box.
It is expected that the car hire facility will be popular with both Cardiff residents, and those visiting the city for both business and leisure reasons.
