Sixt-rent-a-car launches electric car hire scheme today

The electric powered Citroen model will be available to hire in London from Sixt-rent-a-car

Sixt-rent-a-car’s electric car hire scheme is due to launch in London today. The Fulham/ Chelsea branch of the car hire firm will be the first of the Sixt outlets to offer the zero emissions cars for hire.

Sixt will introduce a range of Ev’ie Citroen models as part of their drive to lower carbon emission and to offer customers a green travel option. The Ev’ie from Citroen boasts some impressive green credentials which will no doubt be a big attraction for those customers who are eager to reduce their carbon footprint.

The Citroen Ev’ie  is the ideal choice for travel around the city of London as it gives off zero emissions therefore it is exempt from the central London congestion charge, and has designated car parking spots dotted around the city. The Citroen Ev’ie is the Citroen C1’s green sister. Like the C1 the Ev’ie is a 5 door vehicle with room onboard for 4 passengers.

Hiring an electric car in London can often work out a lot cheaper than hiring your usual fuel powered vehicle. For a start the fuel and running costs are significantly lower; an electric car can be re-charged from as a little as 95p from a domestic power point, and that 95p could potentially keep your car running all day.

However the Ev’ie has its limits. The green machine has a range of 75 miles and a top speed of 60mph, but for city driving, it’s still a very viable option.

To get a closer look at the electric hire cars available at Sixt-rent-a-car, head down to their Fulham/ Chelsea showroom where the cars are currently on display.

Limo chauffeur calls police after Naomi Campbell turns violent

Naomi Campbell's chaffeur claims she gave him a black eye

Supermodel Naomi Campbell is currently in hiding after her limo chauffeur accused her of slapping and punching him yesterday.

Naomi’s chauffeur alleges that the 39-year-old model attacked him whilst he was driving through the streets of New York yesterday afternoon. The London born supermodel was travelling in the back of the black Cadillac Escalade limo when she became angry and hit out at the chauffeur.

The chauffeur then pulled the limo off the road and called the police. It was at this point that Ms Campbell escaped from the vehicle and made off on foot.

It is not known exactly what triggered the violent outburst, although there are claims that the model flew into a rage as she believes that the driver, who was previously employed by her boyfriend Vlad Doronin, helped cover up Doronin’s indiscretions whilst in his employment.

A spokesperson for Ms Campbell says: “Naomi will cooperate voluntarily, and there is more to this story than meets the eye.”

The chauffeur is not pressing charges so it’s unlikely that the case will be taken any further. However the supermodel has form when it comes to violent episodes. Three years ago she pleaded guilty to assaulting her maid, and also admitted abusive behaviour towards the police at Heathrow Airport after she lost her temper when she discovered her luggage had been lost.

The Queen hitches a lift after her Bentley limo breaks down

The Queen had to get a lift from the police after her limo broke down

Her Majesty the Queen was forced to hitch a lift yesterday after her Bentley limousine broke down whilst she was out and about on official visits in the London.

The exquisite Bentley had been a gift to the Queen from the manufacturers to mark her Golden Jubilee back in 2002. However the fine limousine wouldn’t start after the Queen emerged from the Gherkin building whilst on a royal visit.

Approximately 1,000 people lined the streets to catch a glimpse of the Monarch as she emerged from the London landmark. Luckily the 83-year-old’s blushes were saved by the police who were on hand to offer the Queen a lift to her next engagement, leaving the Bentley limo to be taken away by the mechanics.

The Queen had 4 engagements in the capital on Wednesday so there was no time to spare when the Bentley broke down. The Monarch was then chauffeured off to her next visit at Tower Bridge in the back of a police 4×4 Range Rover.

Earlier in the day, the Queen had paid a visit to Aldgate tube stop where she was given a guided tour of the station. Perhaps she would have been better off sticking to the tube and leaving the limo at home?!

Tiger Woods to apologise publically

Golf star Tiger to issue an apology

Golf star Tiger Woods is to make a public appearance to apologise for his recent infidelities during a meeting in Florida tomorrow his agent has announced.

Only a select group of friends, colleagues, reporters, and 3 news channels will be present at the appearance. Tiger’s agent has stressed that this is not a press call and that the golfer will not be answering questions from the media.

Speaking through his agent, the 34-year-old golfer is said to feel the need to apologise to his fans and those close to him who may have felt “hurt and let down” by his behaviour. Although he added that the matter is fundamentally between him and his wife, Tiger wants to draw a line under the whole sex scandal and move on, and issuing a public apology is a positive step in this direction.

The sportsman, who is married to Swedish model Elin Nordgen, is said to be working hard behind the scenes to try and his marriage in light of the extramarital affairs. The couple have two young children between them.

Tiger is currently taking a break from the professional world of golfing whilst he concentrates on his private life. There has been no official word from the golfer himself since the news broke about his multiple affairs back in November of last year.

Limo Broker provide Ferrari for EuroMillions winner’s press call

Nigel Page and Justine Laycock toast their EuroMillions win with a glass of bubbly

As the winners of the biggest ever UK lottery payout faced the glare of the media spotlight for the very first time in a press call on Monday, Limo Broker were chosen to provide the new millionaires with a stunning Ferrari Spyder 360 especially for the occasion.

43-year-old Nigel Page and his partner 41-year-old Justine Laycock now have to get used to the champagne and fast car lifestyle after scooping a record breaking £56 million fortune on the EuroMillions rollover draw on Friday. However the down-to-earth couple revealed that they were content to celebrate their win in a slightly less extravagant way; by tucking into a round of bacon butties at the cafe of their local supermarket.

The lucky couple from Cirencester in Gloucestershire stepped into the limelight for the first time during their press conference on Monday, held at the Bath Spa Hotel. They were photographed sipping champagne on a pair of thrones, and also posed next to the red Ferrari whilst spraying the waiting photographers with copious amounts of champagne.

Mr Page and Ms Laycock have three children between them from previous relationships, and they’ve been together for the past 8 years. Whilst Mr Page runs his own property maintenance business, Ms Laycock works at a local estate agents. However they are both planning to give up work for good following their windfall.

As well giving their jobs the boot, the millionaire couple are also planning to give their current transport their marching orders. Mr Page is hoping to swap his white van for a Range Rover Sport, and Ms Laycock is looking to trade-in her Honda Civic for something a little more sporty, maybe a Ferrari Spyder?!

Surge in sales of second hand limos

Used limos are currently doing a roaring trade in the UK

Limo dealers working in the second hand market have reported a surge in sales following the credit crunch.

It is believed the rise in the number of sales of used limos has come as a result of the economic slump. With many limo hire businesses folding due to the recession, there’s been an increase in the number of second hand limos available. As other limo firms struggle to secure finance to invest in new limos, there’s been a surge in demand for used limos as they are a more economically viable option as opposed to buying new.

In the UK a number of limousine hire firms have fallen victim to the credit crunch. Some have been unable to attract new customers during the gloomy economic climate, whilst others have been unable to receive much needed financial support from the banks who are unwilling to lend.

In order to overcome the obstacle of not being able to secure financial backing to invest in a new limousines, many operators have turned to the second hand limo market to bring a new lease of life to their fleet. A number of newer models have been spotted on the market recently. These vehicles can get picked up for half the price of a brand new model, making them a very attractive option.

Sussex based limo distributor, Krystal UK, have been feeling the effect of the boom in business. They recently reported that 7 out of every 10 of their limos sold have been used vehicles.

However some limo bosses argue that investing in second hand limos is a false economy as customers are attracted to a company that has a unique limo which stands out from the crowd. By buying a used limousine, you’re buying something that’s already been seen before.

More green hire cars to be rolled out by leading vehicle rental broker

The Honda Civic Hybrid is one of the green cars earmarked for use within the new fleet of rental cars

Car broker, Economy Car Hire, have announced plans to introduce a brand new fleet of hybrid vehicles to its hire car range. The green vehicles will be made available from a wide selection of locations across the UK initially, including most major airports.

The release of the new hybrid cars will offer car hire customers a number of extra benefits. For one, the hybrid cars will allow drivers to avoid the congestion charge in the city centre areas such as London. Plus car hire customers will be able to lower their C02 emissions with a minimal amount of effort.

Economy Car Hire, who specialise in allowing customer to compare the car hire prices across a range of companies, say this is the first in a series of steps being taken as part of their green initiative. The company’s goal is to see these hybrid vehicles rolled out across its entire fleet of hire cars in Europe.

The Toyota Prius had been earmarked as one of the green vehicles to be used in the new fleet of cars. However following a global recall of the new models over a braking safety issue, these vehicles will not be used unless deemed safe. Instead the Honda Civic Hybrid will be one of the eco-friendly cars used in the new fleet.

Party bus in Canada mows down intoxicated reveller

Man is hospitalised after getting kicked off a party bus in Calgary

A man who had been ejected from a party bus in Calgary, Canada last weekend was left hospitalised after the vehicle then drove over him after he fell underneath the bus.

The as yet unidentified man believed to be in his early twenties, was said to have been on a night out with his girlfriend when he was removed from the party bus after it’s reported his behaviour got out of control. After the man had been thrown off the bus, he started banging on the side of the vehicle as his girlfriend was still onboard. As the party bus drove away, the man fell under the wheels and the vehicle rolled over him.

The man was immediately taken to hospital. He is being treated for a number of injuries including internal bleeding and pelvic injuries.

The owner of the party bus company known as Party Machine, Tom Malin said that in 7 years of operating, they’ve never had to eject a passenger before. Mr Malin added that the party bus provides a valuable service as it ensures that intoxicated people are transported safely.

The incident has sparked controversy with a number of users posting comments on the Calgary Herald website which reported the accident. Some are calling for party buses to be banned, whilst others believe better care should be taken by operators, adding that the company shouldn’t have been thrown the drunk man off the vehicle whilst he was in an incapable state.

However another post, from a user who claims to have been a witness and present on the party bus when the incident occurred, alleges that the man had behaved violently towards another passenger. In this instance the man would have been removed to ensure the safety of others onboard.

Calgary police are investigating the incident.

Wedding limo mix up ruins bride’s big entrance on wedding day

A bride from Sheffield was left to hurriedly book two taxi cabs to get her to the church on time after her wedding limo failed to show.

Laura Esberger was the unlucky bride in question. Prior to her wedding, Laura had struggled to find a limousine available on her wedding day as most were already full with school prom bookings. So when she finally discovered one company with availability, she jumped at it, securing her booking with a £60 deposit.

However a month before the big day, bride-to-be Laura was baffled to find the Chrysler 300 limousine she had booked for her big day, waiting outside of her house. After explaining that the date was 4 weeks away, the limo left, expected to return on the correct date.

When the wedding day came, the wedding car didn’t. With just 45 minutes to go until the ceremony, Laura called the limo company to ask where her limousine was. She was told someone would be back in touch; she’s still waiting for that phone call. Instead the bride was forced to call a taxi to the church.

After contacting the booking agent, National Limousine Hire, it transpires that the booking was placed with a Manchester based limo hire company. It appears there was some confusion regarding the date, and Laura’s details could not be found on their system. The company have since offered to refund Laura her deposit, and apologised for the upset.

This is scant consolation to the newlyweds who were looking forward to having the wedding snaps taken in their dream car.
